MAGA GOP Aims to Destroy Our Government

The evidence is clear that the MAGA GOP is planning to destroy our democratic government as we know it.

We’re not alarmists, we simply note what the MAGA GOP says and does. Trump pledges that if re-elected he will strip tens of thousands of federal employees of their civil-service protections and replace them with “loyal” supporters to "shatter the deep state." DeSantis’ says he wants to decapitate the FBI and Justice Department. MAGA GOP leader Michael Flynn says, “We’re at war right here at home and it’s our own government.”

MAGA GOP Senator J.D. Vance asserts the 2020 election was stolen.  He lionizes the insurrectionists and seditionists who attempted a coup to stop the election certification on January 6. Vance says we are in a late Republican period and traditional norms must be cast aside by being “pretty wild.” In anticipation that Trump will win the next election, Vance advises Trump “to fire every mid-level bureaucrat, every civil servant in the administrative state, replace them with our people.”

MAGA GOP Is Not Committed to The Rule of Law

Worse, Vance, a lawyer, advises that the law be ignored. He asserts that if the Supreme Court found firing civil servants to be unconstitutional, just ignore the ruling—“the chief justice has made his ruling. Now let him enforce it.” 

Vance clamors for MAGA GOP to take the country back from “scumbag” political opponents. He believes our institutions are corrupt and says, “We have to replace the people who run them. Some of those institutions we have to destroy.”

MAGA GOP Florida Senator Scott has filed a bill to make all executive branch employees “at-will” meaning they can fired for no cause. Who do you expect would replace them if a MAGA GOP president is in power?

The seditionists on January 6 tried to overthrow our government. They failed in part because our military leaders were determined not to let Trump use the military to hold onto power. What would have happened had the military leadership been loyal to Trump and not the Constitution? If the MAGA GOP can replace patriotic officers and civil servants who honor their oath to the Constitution with loyal MAGA GOP sycophants, our Constitutional Republic will cease soon to exist. 

Can Democracy Be Saved?

To save our democracy, more patriotic Republicans need to stand up and clean house. Unfortunately, that is unlikely. The GOP clings to MAGA. Even the National Republican Party chair still questions the legitimacy of President Biden’s election.

It's unlikely that the Republican Party can right its ship. We must stop the MAGA GOP revolution at the ballot box.  

We are not alone in recognizing that democracy is in crisis. Jon Meacham, presidential historian and Pulitzer Prize winning author says, “We are really in the moment of maximum danger for American democracy.”

We ignore the MAGA GOP threat at our own peril.
