This week we produced a joyful Accessible Virtual Pride with One Free Community and Luticha Doucette. We’ve edited all our archival videos. Please watch if you missed the event. We also invested a lot of work updating our Transmedia page and organizing our Star Trek Content. Our live-stream spaces are going strong and we’ve also added more ways to access them to the website. Last update is we are experimenting with combining our audience development program and our fundraising mutual aid rooms into one big Open Development Peer Exchange. |
Happy Disability Pride Month!Join Calling Up Justice in honoring Disability Pride Month, a time to celebrate the power and resilience of disabled individuals. This month-long celebration is an opportunity to promote disability justice and advocate for equality, while shedding light on the unique experiences and contributions of the disabled community. Let’s come together to challenge ableist narratives and create a more inclusive society.

Transforming Corporate GhostlandsA city, once thriving hub for technology companies, faced a crisis when many of these companies went bankrupt and left their office buildings empty. Instead of letting these buildings decay, the city’s residents repurposed them into spaces for art, innovation, and education. These spaces revitalized the city and fostered a culture of community and creativity. They also became symbols of hope, resilience, and collaboration for future generations.

Tacoma Pride 2023Maiamama went to Tacoma Pride and had a wonderful time seeing people throughout her community. She was loving the ASL on the Drag show, all the families celebrated and visiting every table. She met a lovely black woman who sells her own spice blends called Chain of Spices. The sun was bright and it was a beautiful day.

Updated Transmedia ProductionsWe produce live events, organize and participate in think-tanks, and study groups, to envision new ways to organize and produce outside of colonized systems and practices. We also support, staff, and design for online and in-person events and shows. Transmedia includes our storytelling across platforms in both hybrid and digital spaces.

MaiaMamaThis week on Gaming4Justice (Wednesday 4pm), Maiamama worked hard on the points puzzle. Although she didn’t figure out why her code wasn’t working online, she did figure it out! Come back next week and she’ll show you how! On Trek Talk (Thursdays 4pm), Maiamama and Claudia discussed the recent episode of Star Trek Strange New Worlds, Among The Lotus Eaters. They had a lot of good convos on an episode that they could only say they liked a lot, but not loved it. Come watch the replay on our Twitch Channel. This Monday at 12pm Maiamama will be back with Makeup Monday, playing with color in a nice chill space.

Star Trek and Calling Up JusticeAs part of Calling Up Justice’s practice we reflect on widely distributed cultural productions to facilitate media literacy and explore larger ideas of social justice. Star Trek’s combination of a utopian future, allegorical storytelling, diverse representation, social commentary, and ethical exploration make it an excellent vehicle for discussing social justice. It invites viewers to envision a better future while critically examining the present and contemplating the changes necessary to achieve social equality and justice.

Finding Fulfillment in the Accessible MundaneIn a world consumed by imaginary utopias and the pursuit of perfection, it is crucial to recognize the value of the accessible mundane. Perfection is a myth propagated by Supremacy Culture, fostering unrealistic expectations. Instead, we should embrace imperfection and engage in the day-to-day creative work of meeting our needs in messy, imperfect ways that align with our capabilities.
