Change can be difficult, but sometimes necessary.
Following the continued growth of SQM Research and the expanding asset classes it reports on, SQM Research decided late last month to implement a restructure by bringing in Sector Heads to manage our rating service.
This restructure levels out the workload and prepares us for the expanding demand for ratings. The introduction of Sector Heads was an inevitable expansion and reflects SQM’s strong belief in preparing for growth. SQM Research now issues ratings on over 400 funds annually, covering all asset classes, and this number continues to grow.
We are excited to promote our Senior Analyst, Chetan Trehan, and to appoint Paul Saliba as our Sector Heads. Paul is responsible for Fixed Income and Equities fund ratings. All other asset classes including alternatives, multi-strategy SMAs and real assets are managed by Chetan. We are currently recruiting for a mid-level analyst to join our highly skilled Research Team as well.
In addition, there will be a ratings committee due to start in the first week of August to oversee new and changed ratings. The committee will consist of the two Sector Heads, SQM’s Managing Director and two external independents. I am pleased to announce that Anthony Garvey and James Purvis are our two external independents on the committee. The Sector Heads will make their recommendations on the ratings to the Committee for which the Committee will vote on.
Certainly, this development represents a change to our team structure, but our long-held research and ratings process, intrinsically held since 2007, will remain the same. There will be no changes to the reports or the assessment of the ratings.
In all this, we pay our deepest respects to Rob da Silva for his massive contribution over the years at SQM and continue to wish him well in his future endeavors.
Our commitment at SQM Research is to continue providing the highest level of service to our clients. With the reorganization of our Research Team and the introduction of our rating committee, we can move ahead in the coming years with confidence, knowing that we are providing our clients with the best in service and expertise.
