A Doll’s Story: The Next Chapter.
Readers may remember The Pound Ridge Museum’s 2019 exhibition titled Tell Me A Story Of Pound Ridge: 50 Objects / 50 Stories. Among the 50 amazing stories told was that of Margaret Davenport, a German Fashion Doll who, along with her considerable wardrobe of handmade clothes, arrived by steamship in Galvaston, Texas in 1900. Margaret’s story was told to us by her owner, the late Janet Buckbee, a long-time Pound Ridge resident and former Historical Society Trustee. According to Janet, Margaret Davenport was a much loved member of the family and was originally cared for by Janet’s mother, Gertrude (Reymershoffer) Cuddy who brought her from Texas to Massachusetts when the family relocated there. The precious doll was passed down to Janet who cared for her and moved her to Pound Ridge in 1960. Margaret has lived in Pound Ridge ever since. This past Spring, Terry Buckbee generously donated Margaret Davenport to the Pound Ridge Museum, where she will be cared for and preserved for the next chapter in her storied life. We thank Terry and the Buckbee family for trusting us with Margaret’s care. We are honored to welcome her into our family.
