BOOKLET

A Directory of Authors

(Three NOT Recommended Lists)

Expanded and Updated—2nd Edition

Dear Subscribers,

Here is the recent announcement from Lighthouse Trails Publishing about my Updated and Expanded 2nd Edition booklet. My personal notes about this booklet are below this announcement, and my Donor Thank You (plus video) and two new support options are at the bottom.

Lighthouse Trails is very pleased to announce the release of the new updated and expanded 2nd edition of our 2013 booklet A Directory of Authors (Three NOT Recommended Lists) by Chris Lawson. The new edition includes many additional names, still under three categories and all alphabetized for easy look-up. Chris Lawson has done extensive research to compile and update these lists, and we pray his work here continues to serve believers who are seeking to discern between truth and error. Please note that this is not a comprehensive list, and sadly, were that the case, this would be a very large book.

The booklet is 18 pages long and sells for $1.95 for single copies. Quantity discounts are available. Our booklets are designed to give away to others or for your own personal use. Below is the content of this new booklet. To order copies in booklet format,  click here.

Notes about Updated & Expanded Booklet

In sending out this particular update about this updated listing of authors—Three NOT Recommended Lists, I am under the impression (based on past experience) that some people may be very upset about this.

First, please note that my intention is not to offend anyone needlessly. Instead, my purpose is to warn Christians lovingly. Compared to the whole, few these days are willing to risk attaching their face and name to creating a list like this. I am willing to take the risk because I have seen far too many well-meaning individuals and churches get utterly ruined by false doctrines in the church. I am deeply grateful for others who also have taken this risk because, through their research and mine, we together have been able to help thousands of people avoid rampant and destructive false teachings in the world and the church.

Throughout history, many false teachings have attacked the church from outside and inside. These are just a few of the groups that produced Christological Heresies from the 2nd—5th centuries: the Ebionites, Docetists, Arians, Appolinarians, Nestorians, and the Eutychians. Many more samples and variations of heresies could be listed from succeeding centuries.

In the church today, there are an excessive amount of false teachings that are attacking God's Word and His church. The various topics and numerous names listed in my Updated and Expanded 2nd Edition Booklet are much needed. More Christians must warn about famous authors who either write or promote ideas "which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned" (Romans 16:17). As Scripture says, "A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump" (Galatians 5:9).

The consequences are devastating when people read and believe material from aberrant and heretical famous authors. Many Christians' are shipwrecking their faith and beliefs as false teachings spread like cancer in churches worldwide. "But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived" (2 Tim. 3:13). Like waves of the sea tossing an overboard sailor to and fro while trying to grasp a floating life preserver, well-meaning but undiscerning churchgoers embrace everything from aberrant teaching to full-blown heresy. With older heresies repackaged and newer false teachings promoted, countless individuals have latched onto both.

Second, naming names is not an exercise in personal arrogance here. Nor do I take delight in examining books and scraping the Internet to check my work triple, quadruple, and quintuple times to have accurate research on what people are teaching, endorsing, or practicing. It is a laborious process indeed.

Scripture names numerous people in the early church who were either confusing Christians with false doctrine or were outright threats to the church and Jesus and the apostles' doctrine. I praise God for His warnings in the early church and am thankful for other balanced Christian apologetics and discernment ministries today. The church today needs to know the names of famous people who either teach or promote aberrant doctrines or are teaching, endorsing, or promoting outright heresy.

  • Sample of related verses in the New Testament: Simon Magus (Acts 8); Watch out for false teachers—“dogs, “evil workers” and “the concision” (Phil 3:2); Hymeneaus and Alexander (1 Tim. 1:20); Phygellus and Hermogenes (2 Tim. 1:15); Hymenaeus and Philetus (2 Tim. 2:17); Janes and Jambres (2 Tim. 3:8); Alexander the Coppersmith (2 Tim. 4:4); Demas (2 Tim. 4:9); Diotrophes (3 John).

Third, after speaking at one church years ago, I kindly exhorted the pastor that he needs to exercise biblical discernment as a pastor. I encouraged him to “go the extra mile” and research what is going on in the church to warn people and answer the valid concerns of his congregants. He replied, “Well, discernment is not my thing!” I kid you not—that is precisely what he told me. I was shocked and grieved over this.

The bottom line is this. If a pastor cannot lovingly warn the flock of God about heretics, aberrant teachers, and the mass of utter nonsense blowing through churches everywhere today, he should not be a “pastor.” Pastors with no discernment and cannot warn and teach the flock of God (Acts 20:28-31; Col.1:27-29) have no business standing before people as representatives of the Lord.

  • “Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.

    —Acts 20:28-31 (Emphasis added)

If pastors cannot warn you about deception in the church, they will one day betray you to follow what is popular! It has happened to me, it has happened to many of my colleagues, and it has happened to many of my Christian friends.

What is listed in the updated and expanded booklet?

This newly updated booklet lists many names in three main categories. Here are the subheading notes in the booklet for each section.

  • #1—The New Spirituality in the Church: Each of the following authors professes to be Christian and/or uses biblical terminology in his or her writing, yet promotes at least one of the following serious false teachings: contemplative spirituality (i.e. Spiritual Formation), emergent/progressive spirituality, the seeker-friendly, church-growth movement (e.g., Willow Creek, Purpose Driven), ecumenism, universalism, necromancy, liberal theology, the so-called “social justice” movement/wokeism, and/or mystical practices such as Yoga/mediation.

  • #2—”Christian” and Non-Christian Mystics of the Past

  • #3—New Age Movement: Each of the following authors promotes one or more of the following: New Age/Eastern philosophy and/or meditation, New Thought religion, Quantum Spirituality, Kaballah, Sufism, Buddhism, and/or spiritistic influences.

What about the many names that are not listed in this booklet?

I am currently working on another list that includes approximately 400 more names. These other names will consist of famous authors and personalities from movements such as the Word-Faith/prosperity gospel (money preachers), the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR), the Signs & Wonders and counterfeit revival/holy laughter movements, the Latter Rain and Manifest Sons of God movements, Dominionists, historically well-known false prophets/false teachers, and much more.

What we do NOT list in the booklet!

Please note that we do not list names over personal issues or church disputes, as these are Matthew 18 issues and should be scripturally addressed amongst individual believers, one-on-one, or with local church leaders. We deal with doctrine/teaching harmful to the Gospel message and balanced, sound, biblical discipleship.

Two YouTube Videos

1) Why we name names, and 2) What SRN is NOT!

Here are three short videos I have done. One is about why we should name names, another is about the ministry of Spiritual Research Network, and the third is What SRN is NOT!

  • “Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. —Jude 3 [Emphasis added]

Prayer support—and Thank You to donors!

Please pray for me as I continue to research and work on several more booklets and a few larger projects. What I and other Watchman type ministries do is oftentimes very difficult—spiritually, physically, and financially. Thank you for praying for me!

Also, I want to say Thank You again to all who are able to support me and the SRN outreach ministry as the Lord leads. Your financial gifts helps tremendously with monthly office expenses, rent, liability insurance, website hosting fees, and more.

Below here are two ongoing needs that I am currently up against and I can only proceed if I have the needed support. If you or anyone can help, here is a Donate Link and also my recent and newly added Thank You Donors video on my website.

Two support options/needs

  • Larger Office Space: I currently have a few more days to make a decision to obtain a larger office space. The reason for this is that I can have a dedicated recording studio space separate from my research/writing space and 4500+ book library. This would only be $260.00 more each month but it would give me the much more space for in-house projects and separate research from audio/video production and administrative work. A little more space would help tremendously in filming projects, writing, and post-production work.

  • New Laptop Computer: The previously sponsored MacBook Pro I have used has been a great blessing. However, with tech upgrades over the past years, it is finally time to upgrade again. I need new hardware technology to upgrade and boost beyond the 2019 Catalina OS platform. The older technology is grinding and overheating regularly, and the external drives to reduce CPU and memory issues are insufficient. This last week my laptop temperature hit 121°F = 49.44 °C, which is way too hot! New MacBook Pro laptops are quite expensive, but they do the job like no other!

If you have read this far, thank you very much for your time and interest!  And, thank you again to all who pray for me and are able to support our work in ‘Proclaiming the Gospel and Encouraging Biblical Discernment. I am deeply grateful for your help as I could never do this alone.

Looking unto Jesus—our Great Shepherd and the Overseer of our souls.
