Community Pharmacy Lincolnshire authored letter shared directly to MPs and Ministers by Community Pharmacy England

Last week we updated you on our parliamentary lobbying work, to ensure that the voice of pharmacy is heard both locally and nationally at Westminster.

You may remember from last week's newsletter that, following a letter received from Health Minister Neil O'Brien MP, in response to our correspondence to Sir John Hayes, we sent a response to Sir John Hayes, noting that some of the information provided by Mr O'Brien needed clarification. The response can be read here and the original letter from Neil O'Brien can be found here.

Community Pharmacy England were impressed by the contents of our letter and were keen to use them as part of the negotiating process with government. Subsequent to sending a copy of this letter to Community Pharmacy England it was used as a briefing element for their negotiating team. The letter was passed to Janet Morrison and Jay Patel, was included in the Prime Minister’s Recovery Plan meeting on Friday, and was then passed with background by pharmacy representatives to a wide range of individuals representing central government. Jay Patel was briefing the Secretary of State for Health, NHS Chief Executive,  NHS Chair, Pharmacy Ministers and Director for Primary Care last week and he personally handed them hard copies of our Community Pharmacy Lincolnshire branded letter. The full list of those who received the letter from him and their roles is shown below:

  • Steve Barclay - Secretary of State for the Department of Health and Social Care
  • Amanda Pritchard – NHS Chief Executive
  • Richard Meddings - NHS Chair
  • Amanda Doyle (OBE) (Dr) - National Director for Primary Care and Community Services
  • Neil O'Brien - Pharmacy Minister, Member of Parliament for Harborough and a member of the Health and Social Care Select Committee.
  • Vin Diwakar - Medical Director for Transformation NHS England. transformation programmes including those which use improvement in science, technology, digital, and data
  • Will Quince MP- Colchester

We hope that our insight can assist in gaining an appropriate funding level and mechanism for community pharmacy which is certainly overdue. We are very happy to support the work of Community Pharmacy England and will continue to do so as your local community pharmacy representatives.

In case you missed it: NHSBSA emails are changing

Email addresses for the NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) are changing. For pharmacy teams this means that some of the email addresses previously used to contact NHS Prescription Services will no longer work.

There will be a small transition period where emails sent to the old address will be automatically forwarded. This ends on Tuesday 18 July.

After this date, emails sent to the old email address will not be received by the NHSBSA, so pharmacy teams are advised to use the new email address from this point on.
