Kia ora <<First Name>>,

The past month has been packed with Plan My Walk development, video projects, good ol' reporting, and a hearty dose of wild weather to top it all off.

We're also stoked to have seen a massive increase in avalanche awareness coverage in the media space following the rescue of two ice climbers from The Remarkables.

Remember to check avalanche.net.nz before any backcountry alpine adventures. Wishing everyone a safe and successful month ahead!

Get #AvalancheReady this winter

We officially launched our 2023 avalanche safety campaign on July 1st. This campaign aims to get backcountry users #AvalancheReady by sharing real stories from the alpine community.

You may have seen some of our ads pointing to our video of Gavin Lang's avalanche story, or some of our social activity with our winter partners.

We've already seen awesome engagement with our social content. There's been a huge spike in Instagram shares of posts showing avalanche danger ratings. These encouraging signs paint a picture of a community that looks out for each other, and shows the importance of a multi-channel approach.

Keep an eye out for new content on NZAA's Instagram and Facebook.

New 3D track videos & more to come

We recently added our latest 3D flyover track videos to Plan My Walk for Roys Peak Track and Cossey-Massey Loop Walk.

We've been working had on new content for Plan My Walk and have another video coming very shortly, plus a bunch in the pipeline. Watch this space!

More Paparoa & Pike29 Track filming

We were out on the Paparoa Track again for the final weekend of July, getting some additional video for the Pike 29 Memorial Track, which is due to open this summer. It has been awesome to work closely with DOC on this video production and be among some of the first riders to experience this trail! The video will be launched ahead of the official track opening date.

Celebrating Duke of Edinburgh's International Award

Bevan headed out to Petone on July 19th to mark exactly 60 years since The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award was launched in Aotearoa. They celebrated whilst also giving back to the natural environment, improving the banks of one of the local streams by planting native vegetation. Congratulations again to the Award for reaching this milestone!

Wild winter for NZ Avalanche Advisory

NZAA forecasters have seen unusual snowpack conditions over the past month, especially in the Southern Lakes area. These observations have been reflected in avalanche activity, with a number of natural and human-triggered avalanches occurring in July.

It's encouraging to see the volume of media pick-up these conditions have prompted, with several avalanche awareness stories running over the past few weeks. Here are just a few:

The list goes on! Thank you to our incredible forecasters for all your hard work.
What's next?

Plan My Walk BETA testing

We were thrilled to receive hundreds of registrations for BETA testers. In the coming weeks, we'll be sharing two new features with our testers and starting the feedback process.

Everyone else will have to wait until summer. But trust us... there are good things coming!
Thanks to our funders for making it all possible
