Thanks be to God, we here in Northern California have not been suffering with the summer heat as so much of the rest of the country has. Keep your prayers aloft to be spared of wildfires, also.
Included in this Grapevine are three articles which you may have seen in the Diocesan E-News, but deserve repeating, rereading, announcing some worthy workshops sponsored by the Diocese.
- The “Be Disaster Ready” set for Saturday September 16th. It would be nice if anyone could attend in person.
- A “Well-Being” webinar/ workshop on October 14th.
- A “Racial Healing and Justice” Zoom only workshop set for Saturday, September 23rd. This is extremely important for those applying for a lay minister license such as Eucharistic Visitor, Eucharistic Minister or Worship Leader.
See the details in these items from the Diocesan E-News. And please remember that Dakota Borgfeldt will be telling us about her experience at the Episcopal Youth Event (EYE) she attended in Washington D.C. after church on Sunday, August 6th.
Finally, thanks to Elenaor Albon, Stephanie Chapralis, Bobbiejo Maggard and Sam Garcia, more and more “cleaning out” has been accomplished in all the church buildings, some items have been given away to people coming to St. Patrick’s for the Food Bank distributing, some items have been recycled, and some items have gone into the trash bins. I also would like to thank Charlie Buff and Brian Borgfeldt and Ron Keith (even as he heals) for grooming the Memorial Garden and other flower beds. Thank you, faithful stewards!
Blessings,
Father Ed

The Friedrich Small Grant Fund
|
|
|
This fund was initiated in 2002 with a $30,000 gift from Gene and Marjorie Friedrich. Only the income from the gift can be used and grants are limited to $500 per qualified and approved applicant. To be compliant with the terms of the gift, the Vestry –at its recent July meeting-- approved a policy/procedure document, an application form and appointed three people to the implementation committee (Margaret Merchat, Leslie Clark and Hutch Gibb). The purpose of the grant program is to assist individuals as they work to reach economic/work related goals. Grants can be used for a very wide variety of costs such as training, education, supplies, clothing for an interview, transportation, license fees, tools, child care needs --- just to name a few. Anyone can apply—so if you or someone you know of might be interested, please have them contact the church office to request a copy of the policy and application. The policy and application form provide more information on eligibility criteria. The appointed committee will be sending out letters to community organizations to inform them of the grant program as well. Applications will be reviewed and acted upon generally within a month of receipt. The amount of money available to allocated will depend on earnings in the prior year plus any income from prior years not allocated. For 2023, dependent on further budget information, it appears that we have approximately $1500 in total to award. If you have any questions about the program—please contact Margaret Merchat.

Choir Returns to Rehearsal
|
|
|
Choir will have its first rehearsal on Thursday, August 17th from 6:30 to 8:00 in the Sanctuary. The first choir Sunday singing at service will be Sunday, September 10th. We are returning a bit earlier to get a few more weeks of practice in, so we can start our Holiday Concert rehearsing earlier than last year!
We invite anyone who is interested in singing with us to come check out a rehearsal throughout our first few weeks of practice to see if it is for you!
We particularly encourage male voices, which would even out our choir!
If you have any questions, please contact Mark Kratz or Doug Richardson.

Greetings Friends! Check out Eleanor's thankful note to her volunteers from Monday, July 24th. On August 14th they will return again!
|

Dear All,
Tonight, with Arturo's genius, he set us up in the shade of St Pat's parking lot trees! In the cooler and breezier setting (augmented with a REFB fan set on high!) we happily distributed food to 49 very happy households/171 what I assume will be very happy individuals!
Many thanks to Natalie, Brad, Andrew, Beth, driver Eddie and our infamous rep, Arturo, who was flashing his beautiful new wedding ring! The reduced work force was totally adequate!
Using REFB carts, clients were able to come by and select food they would use - i.e. no waste! It's wonderful to hear clients say they have X amount of something and don't need more! They're helping us help others!
Happily tonight, we distributed all that REFB sent; sadly a car drove in at 6:00. There was nothing to give him. As I was bringing in the distribution sign from hwy 12, he was leaving and lowered his window to say, "Thank you for your service!" Oh, geeze! It's my prayer he comes earlier for the next distribution.
Monday, Aug 14, these are our scheduled volunteers: Pam/Larry, Ned and Andrew (yes, again. Gotta grab this wayfarer when he's here!)
It is just fun and such a blessing to watch God work, and to be a part of making a tangible difference in His world!
Eleanor

Our very own Dakota Borgfeldt had the opportunity to go to the University of Maryland. What a blessing!
Check out the article below which includes a photo and a quote from Dakota!
We’re back from EYE23!
|
|
On July 4, we made our way to the University of Maryland in College Park for EYE23, the triennial gathering of Episcopal teens from all over the world. Our delegation, among the largest in attendance, consisted of 19 teens from across our diocese, and 4 chaperones.
The highlights of EYE23 include amazing worship each day, featuring the EYE band, “Charcuterie,” and rousing sermons given by the Rev. Nancy Frausto, director of Latinx Studies at Seminary of the Southwest, Julia Ayala Harris, President of the House of Deputies, and Presiding Bishop Michael Curry, who told us about his cat named “Muffin”!
Our teens also participated in workshops each day, with the topics ranging from gun violence, suicide, and climate change to church governance, building community, and what it means to be an Episcopal Christian. If you know one of our teens (or chaperones) who went to EYE23, give them a few days to get some rest, then be sure to ask them all about it!

Images and Reflections from EYE 23
|
|
EYE23 was truly eye opening. I met people I never would’ve met, worshiped in ways that I didn’t think were possible, and grew closer to God. I have developed a better understanding of the Episcopalian faith, all thanks to the mentors. Now I go forth to continue writing my story in the light of God.
– Dakota Borgfeldt
EYE23 taught me a lot about using my faith to practice positive change in my community. I attended many political and violence prevention workshops that directed me to how change is done in not only the church but also the world. I will take these lessons and utilize them for change, as well as teaching others.
– Ethan Bullard
EYE 23 was a great event that I’m glad I attended. The people were nice and welcoming, the events were good, and almost everyone was having a good time. And those you didn’t atleast had a fun time meeting new and hanging out with friend. It was a good event to be closer to God and to people who weren’t as close or as religious as others could still participate. The workshops that were offered were good as well, and they opened up many different conversations and viewpoints. I’m glad that I attended, and I hope that the lessons and new knowledge I learned continues with me and helps me through life.
