Welcome Bette to Stewards Staff
Please help us welcome Bette Meritt as Stewards new Volunteer Coordinator! Bette has been a terrific volunteer for over a year, learning about and participating in Stewards programs. We're delighted she is joining us on staff to help recruit wonderful volunteers like her!
Bette brings her background in real estate and construction project management. She's worked on solar and helped advocate for her local forests. Her background equipped her with a diverse skill set, including project and business management, organizational and negotiation skills, fundraising, and public outreach.
But most importantly, Bette learned to cherish every moment and find joy in whatever she does, and believes life is about having fun and making a positive impact along the way. If you would like to volunteer with Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods, or have general questions, contact Bette at 707-869-9177 ex 6 or email bette@stewardscr.org.

Willow Creek Trail Crew Report August 2, 2023: Nine Volunteers gathered for their weekly Wednesday Vic Tanny Lesson and hike along the Watershed View Trail. The Watershed View Trail is an easy North/South one mile trail out to the View Point with an outstanding view of the Willow Creek Watershed. You can see all the way down the valley between Red Hill to the South and the Island in the Sky to the North. Pomo Canyon Campground is easily visible as is the Pacific Ocean just above Jenner. Armed with weed whips, brush blades, chainsaws, hand saws, loppers and a pole saw the group headed out from the Hunters Camp Road Trail Head off Coleman Valley Road. Trail was slightly choked with brush, grasses, leaning trees and low overhead branches. (continued below)
Grasses, brush and trees were cut back to make the trail a little easier for hikers, bikers and equestrians to negotiate. Low overhead branches were cleared so even an equestrian could easily sit tall in the saddle with out having to duck or dismount. Lunch for most was at the view point one mile from the Trail Head. Two bags of Flora's cookies gave us an extra sugar rush for the work on the way back. Yes, most of us made a second pass along the trail. After completion, Tim (The Tread Man) Mayer had bottles of cold water for us to chill out with. Then it was back to the Willow Creek Shop to clean and store most of our tools. -- Rich Lawton, CSP/Stewards Volunteer Trail crew Coordinator

Trail Crew is looking for assistance in responding to trail problems. If you notice problems while hiking the trail at Armstrong Redwoods SNR, Austin Creek SRA, Sonoma Coast SP or the Willow Creek Watershed please take a few photos, one distant shot to show the overall problem and one close up. Please get a good location and a quick note of the problem (clogged culvert, tree blocking the trail, brush overgrown blocking the trail, etc.)
