Survivors to be Honoured at Powwow

You are invited to the Honouring of Tk'emlups te Secwépemc Survivors who attended Kamloops Indian Residential School at the 2023 Kamloopa Powwow. This event will take place on the Saturday of Kamloopa Powwow, August 5th, approximately 5pm onwards at the Powwow Arbour. Bring your hand drums and witness this monumental event. Kamloopa Pow Wow Magazine

The 2023 Kamloopa Pow Wow Magazine has been released! Get ready to immerse yourself in the vibrant world of the Kamloopa Pow Wow with the digital version of the magazine available using the link below. Printed copies can also be picked up at the Powwow, so you can hold a piece of the celebration in your hands! A huge shout-out to Kamloops This Week for their incredible work in creating a visually captivating and informative publication. Transit to Powwow

BC Transit, Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc, and the City of Kamloops are happy to announce special service to the Kamloopa Powwow, effective August 5-6, 2023. For the weekend of August 5 and 6, Route 18 Mt. Paul will run on a regular weekday schedule. This will provide more options to get to and from the Kamloopa Powwow, located at 345 Powwow Trail. Tkek Yeel Stem

Tkek Yeel Stem Day Camp runs August 5 - 25 for children between the ages of 7-15. Tkek Yeel Stem is run and overseen by the Language and Culture Department at Tk’emlups te Secwepemc. This year will be the second year that we will be running the Tkek Yeel Stem camp. Campers will be able to learn Secwepemctsin and learn cultural ways of being, as well as being able to be outside with plenty of activities and games.

Sunday Mass

Bishop Joseph Nguyen is holding Sunday mass services on August 6 at 1pm. We can't wait to come together again and worship in-person. See you all there!

Medicine Pouch Workshop

Join us on Tuesday, August 8 at Moccasin Square Gardens for a special workshop on crafting Medicine Pouches. Dinner will be provided, so come hungry and ready to immerse yourself in our cultural heritage. Please note that this workshop is exclusively for Tk’emlúps band members. Job Fairs

Our new grocery store is on track for a Fall 2023 opening! Mark your calendars for our two upcoming job fairs. Thursday, September 14, 2pm - 7pm at MSG and Saturday, September 16, 11 to 3pm at Coast Hotel, Kamloops. Details in the poster below.

Martial Arts Champion

12-year old Tk̓emlúps band member Hunter Miers competed at the Canadian Martial Arts Nationals and came home with 2 gold metals! He won gold in Continuous Fighting and Gold in Points Fighting. Hunter has now earned the invite to attend the Martial Arts World Championships in Calgary in October 2023! So exciting, Hunter...Congratulations from all of us here at Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc!

Harjit Sajjan Visits

Representatives from Tkemlups Chief and Council were honoured to meet with federal Minister of Emergency Services, Harjit Sajjan, to discuss emergency preparedness.

New Therapist

We have a new therapist at Community Services! Leita McInnis will be joining us to offer counselling services. Please see the poster to see if she would be a good fit for you! If you have any questions, please contact Rachel Kilback at 250-320-4327.

Nature Parks Closed

Due to the extreme fire danger and drought conditions and in the interest of public safety, all nature parks and nature trails will be closed as of 4:00 pm today by order of the Fire Chief (Bylaw No. 10-37, Division 3). The Barnhartvale Landfill and Yard Waste Depot and the Kamloops Bike Ranch will also be closed until further notice.

Open Garden Harvest

Harvest FREE organic produce with the Tk'emlups Food Sovereignty Team! Tuesdays 10am - 2pm at Tk'emlups HotHouse, next to the Little Fawn Nursery. Thursdays 10am - 2pm, the Community Garden at the Youth Center Park on Kamloopa Way. For more information contact Community Services at 250-828-9810

Kamloopa Community Garden

We have an Open House every Thursday at the Kamloopa Community Garden! Please come by and see what we are growing! You can feel free just come and take what food you need that we have available, or stay and harvest/ hangout in the gardens with us! We have different FRESH produce each week. This week we have a lot of broccoli, beans, peas, Tomato's, beets, chard, kale... Lots of Herbs for culinary and teas, as well as some cabbage, cauliflower, eggplant and peppers!

Fire Prohibition

A reminder that Category 1 campfires are prohibited throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety. This campfire prohibition will remain in effect until noon on Oct. 13, 2023, or until the orders are rescinded.

Grad Celebration

Join us in celebrating Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc students from nursery to grade 12, post-secondary, and trades on August 22, 2023, from 5pm to 8pm at the TteS Powwow Arbour. Let's honor their achievements and support their educational journey!

WATT Electrical Program

WATT Electrical Program coming to TteS for band members in September. This training is hands on and tied directly to employment Houle Electric will be our industry partner and will guarantee 6 months to a year PAID on the job training towards an electrical apprenticeship. Contact Terri right away as trades math is required. This program will be open to anyone is the Secwepemc Nation, so register right away!

Illicit drug dealers are NOT WELCOME

The Tḱemlúps te Secwépemc Chief and Council are taking a firm stance against illicit drug dealers operating on-reserve. They are deeply concerned about the harm caused by illegal drug trafficking to band members and their families. Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc is working closely with Tk̓emlúps Rural RCMP Detachment to identify and remove drug dealers. Those caught dealing drugs will be banished, and those selling drugs from Band-owned homes will be evicted according to the Housing Policy and Rental Agreement. C&C's top priority is ensuring the health and safety of the community and addressing the opioid crisis.
