Happy Australia Day and Chinese New Year from ECCV

The  Ethnic Communities' Council of Victoria wish all our members and constituents a Dappy Australia Day. Australia Day is an opportunity for all Australians to celebrate our rich migrant history and acknowledge the special place of aboriginals as the first people of this land. ECCV also wishes the Chinese community a happy new year in the Year of the Dragon.

ECCV Deputy Chairperson Marion Lau named People of Australia Ambassador

Victorian multicultural leadership has been nationally recognized with the appointment of ECCV Deputy Chairperson Marion Lau as People of Australia ambassador last week.
Ms Lau was one of ten Victorians selected to represent Australia’s multicultural interests as a part of a Federal Government initiative.
“I was very overcome when I received a call from the Prime Minister’s office to say Prime Minister Gillard had nominated me,” Ms Lau says.
“It’s an honour and a privilege to be a part of this community of ambassadors.”
Ms Lau says she intends to use the platform to build on her extensive work as an advocate for multicultural communities.
“I have worked for many years to improve the lives of older Australians from non-English speaking backgrounds, women business owners and international students,” Ms Lau says.

“I have a strong interest in ensuring that people who arrive in this country are supported by government services and are not discriminated against.”
