Janitors Needed

We are in need of janitors to work Powwow weekend. Shifts will start Thursday evening (August 3) and run until Monday morning (August 7). Please call 250-828-9782 or email powwow@kib.ca

Survivors to be Honoured at Powwow

You are invited to the Honouring of Tk'emlups te Secwépemc Survivors who attended Kamloops Indian Residential School at the 2023 Kamloopa Powwow. This event will take place on the Saturday of Kamloopa Powwow, August 5th, approximately 5pm onwards at the Powwow Arbour. Bring your hand drums and witness this monumental event. If you have any questions or concerns you can contact Jeanette Jules or Fred Seymour.

Tkek Yeel Stem

Tkek Yeel Stem Day Camp runs August 5 - 25 for children between the ages of 7-15. Tkek Yeel Stem is run and overseen by the Language and Culture Department at Tk’emlups te Secwepemc. This year will be the second year that we will be running the Tkek Yeel Stem camp. Campers will be able to learn Secwepemctsin and learn cultural ways of being, as well as being able to be outside with plenty of activities and games.

Fire Services Meeting

Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc Chief and Council were pleased to welcome Fire Chief Ken Uzeloc and Sarah Candido, External Relations Liaison, City of Kamloops to our council meeting. Fire Chief Uzeloc was there to provide a second quarter update on the fire services that Kamloops Fire Rescue provides to TteS. We continue to be grateful for the relationship we have with KFR and the City.

Youth Opportunity with FNHPA

Are you Indigenous between the ages of 20 and 30? Do you want to learn more about governance while helping to support existing and future housing professionals in serving their communities? If so, The First Nations Housing Professionals Association (FNHPA) has an exciting opportunity for you! FNHPA has a seat on the Board of Directors for one (1) youth to provide advice and contribute to the mission and vision of the FNHPA.

Commercial Complex Project

Great news! Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc received a $3 million grant from Indigenous Services Canada through the Community Opportunity Readiness Fund – Priorities Framework for the Commercial Complex Project. This project was one of only a handful of economic development infrastructure projects approved from a sea of national applications.

Sizzling Success at Tyee Park!

The Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc Community BBQ at Tyee Park was a resounding success, drawing over 200 community members who came together for a day filled with food, fun, and laughter. From bouncy castles to a dunk tank, yard games, and the hilarious comedy magic of Uncle Chris the Clown, there was something for everyone to enjoy. The event fostered connections within the vibrant community as friends and families celebrated side by side. It was a joyous occasion, leaving everyone with cherished memories and a strengthened sense of togetherness. Here's to more unforgettable days like this in the future!

BC Hydro Try-A-Trade

This is the LAST WEEK to apply! Interested in trying a career with BC Hydro? BC Hydro’s Try-A-Trade program offers the chance to try two different BC Hydro trades through a 12 to 16-week paid work experience program, with placements beginning October 2023. Training includes classroom learning and job shadow placements with BC Hydro crews and professionals in various locations across the province.

Indigenous Food Sovereignty

On Thursday, July 27, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food announced a new $30-million program that will help Indigenous communities build and strengthen local food systems, including the revitalization of traditional food production, harvest and preservation practices. The announcement was held at Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc, at the site of soon-to-be open Sweláps Market, the band-owned grocery store. Among those at the event were provincial Agriculture Minister Pam Alexis and Kúkpi7 Rosanne Casimir.

Ministry Announcement at Sweláps Market

Tk̓wenem7íple7 Dave, Kúkpi7 Rosanne, Tk̓wenem7íple7 Marie, and Tk̓wenem7íple7 Nikki were present at Sweláps Market on Thursday, July 27, for the Ministry of Agriculture and Food's announcement of a groundbreaking $30-million program. This initiative aims to support and empower Indigenous communities in constructing and enhancing their local food systems.

Fire Prohibition

A reminder that Category 1 campfires are prohibited throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety. This campfire prohibition will remain in effect until noon on Oct. 13, 2023, or until the orders are rescinded.

BCAFN Elections

The BCAFN elections scheduled for September 20, 2023, will be conducted through electronic voting. The BCAFN is calling for nominations for various positions, including Regional Chief, three (3) seats on the BCAFN Board of Directors, one (1) Female Youth Representative, and one (1) Male Youth Representative. The deadline for nominations is August 6, 2023. Detailed information on the nomination process, acceptance forms, and the election's policies, procedures, and guidelines can be found in the BCAFN Governance Manual, which is available upon request. WATT Electrical Program

WATT Electrical Program coming to TteS for band members in September. This training is hands on and tied directly to employment Houle Electric will be our industry partner and will guarantee 6 months to a year PAID on the job training towards an electrical apprenticeship. Contact Terri right away as trades math is required. This program will be open to anyone is the Secwepemc Nation, so register right away!

Medicine Pouch Workshop

Join us on Tuesday, August 8 at Moccasin Square Gardens for a special workshop on crafting Medicine Pouches. Dinner will be provided, so come hungry and ready to immerse yourself in our cultural heritage. Please note that this workshop is exclusively for Tk’emlúps band members.
