Redevelopment at Serramonte Del Rey

The Jefferson Union High School District (JUHSD) has proposed to redevelop their 22 acre campus at Serramonte Del Rey into a mixed-use project with up to 1,235 units of market rate and affordable housing. Alongside this, the redevelopment will feature 14,000 square feet of retail/commercial space to serve the neighborhood.

But that's not all! The project comes with fantastic additions to benefit the school district, Daly City, and the surrounding neighborhood:

  • Double the current green spaces and add new walking and biking routes

  • Preserve the Head Start program with dedicated classroom space

  • Relocate the current demonstration garden within the new development and transform it into a Community Garden that will serve all residents of the neighborhood

IDD Units

As part of their commitment to create an inclusive community, JUHSD is also working with affordable housing developers Eden Housing & Core Companies. Together, they are developing plans for a 100% affordable housing project on a section of the site.

This section will consist of 155 total units, with 24 units set-aside for individuals with I/DD. These residents will benefit from supportive services provided by Housing Choices and GGRC.

Immediate action is crucial! Without hearing from community members regarding their support for the project, there is an imminent risk of losing these essential housing units for people with developmental disabilities in Daly City.

San Mateo: What do you need to thrive?

San Mateo County is offering a series of inclusive listening sessions and surveys in multiple language options to hear directly from you.

This is a golden opportunity to share your experiences and needs on four high-priority areas: housing and homelessness, children and families, emergency preparedness, and mental health.

At these sessions, you can connect with your neighbors and community members and engage in open discussions, providing valuable insights that will inform the Board of Supervisors and their policy decisions.

Participating in these discussions can ensure Measure K funds are distributed in ways that directly benefit you. Measure K is the county's largest source of funding for affordable housing. It also funds various programs and initiatives that typically intersect the interests of our IDD community, including paratransit, youth and education programs, health programs, public safety, housing and homelessness, parks and environments, community services, and services for older adults and veterans.

“These sessions represent a unique opportunity to hear from individuals and make informed decisions on how we focus resources to truly make a difference,” said Dave Pine, the dedicated president of the Board of Supervisors.

Live interpretation and small group discussions will be available in English, Spanish, Cantonese, and Mandarin at each session, with additional support in Tagalog for Daly City and San Mateo residents.

Attend the in-person sessions listed in the table below or take the online survey, both available in English, Spanish, Tagalog, and Simplified Chinese.

This is your chance to be advocate for Measure K funds to address your specific needs.

Learn about the Bay Area’s Investment In Affordable Housing

The Bay Area must plan for more than 180,000 new affordable homes by 2035.

To tackle this requirement, the Bay Area Housing Finance Authority (BAHFA) is considering a bond measure for the November 2024 ballot, with a commitment to invest in building and preserving affordable homes that cater to the needs of everyone, including people with developmental disabilities.

We invite you to be a part of this transformative process!

BAHFA is hosting two virtual workshops to share details about the proposed bond measure. This is an excellent opportunity for you to not only learn more about the initiative, provide valuable feedback, ask questions, and advocate for developmental disability specific housing.

Housing Choices at SARC Superhero Festival in San Jose, Santa Cruz, and Salinas

Over the last three weekends, Housing Choices collaborated with SARC, other nonprofits, and community members to honor the incredible talents and diverse traits of our Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) community.

The available housing options for her son seemed limited and stark. However, Jesse and her husband refused to give up on their vision for Gabe's future.

They took matters into their own hands and found a pivotal solution – purchasing a house with an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) in the backyard.
