July 27 Meeting |
|
Our Club has invited the Sunrise Rotarians and guests from our community’s faith-based organizations, service groups, and city offices to attend our Club’s meeting on July 27th to learn more about the initiative to address the growing problem of youth homelessness in our community.
The keynote speaker will be Ann Bischoff, CEO of Star House, the nation's only drop-in center for homeless youth ages 14 - 24. Learn how community-minded individuals and organizations can participate in this effort to help our young people at a critical time in their lives.
We encourage Club members to extend this invitation to your faith-based service organization and community contacts that you feel are interested in this topic. Please register your guests with John Oleyar (joleyar@sbcglobal.net) or Ellen Cathers (emcatw837@gmail.com) so we have a headcount for the meal.

Past President, Rotarian of the Year Bill Tompos passes at age 85
|
|
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our venerable Rotary Club of Westerville member William S. Tompos.
Bill fell ill shortly after the club’s 2023 Independence Day Celebration, and a few days later, was diagnosed with Legionnaire’s Disease. He passed from pulmonary-cardiac complications from the bacterial pneumonia at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital on Wednesday afternoon, July 19. He was 85.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Sheila, their son Stephen, daughter-in-law Lori and their children – his pride and joy – granddaughters Laurel, Stephenie, and Lily.
Bill served as President of the Rotary Club of Westerville for 2006-07, and was honored as our Rotary Club of Westerville Rotarian of the Year for 2005-06. Before moving to Westerville, he also served as President of the Whitehall-Bexley Rotary in the 1990s. Deeply involved in the planning and organization of nearly every public activity of our club, including Independence Day, Bill most recently served on our Board of Directors as President Emeritus for the 2021-22 year.
At the request of the family, a William Tompos Memorial Fund has been set up within the Westerville Rotary Foundation. Donations in his honor can be made here or by clicking the button. Read Bill’s full obituary here. |

Build Beds! |
Please join your fellow Rotarians in helping build beds with Bed Brigade, located at 171 E. 5th Avenue, Columbus, OH 43201 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday, August 5, 2023.
If you haven't worked with Bed Brigade before, don't worry, no experience is necessary! All the wood is cut and just needs to be assembled. It's an incredibly smooth operation. Bed Brigade is scheduling this build specifically for our club, so please come out and help. We would like to get 20 people to help build beds!
If you are unfamiliar with Bed Brigade, they build beds for people, mostly children, who are in need of a bed. For many, this will be the first time they will have a bed of their own. Along with the bed, Bed Brigade provides bedding, a pillow, a blanket, a stuffed toy for the children, and a Bible. Bed Brigade works locally with WARM, Neighborhood Bridges, and many other organizations to identify the need for beds.
Questions: Please contact Jodi Fletcher at 614-891-2952 or at jofletcher@breezelineohio.net.
