This year, your purchase supports people with disabilities not only here at Common Roots, but also among participants at our sister farm in Arusha, Tanzania. Building for Generations is spearheading constructing a home for 20 youth with autism and other developmental disabilities adjacent to their aspiring working farm. Erick’s Youth Home and Farm will provide safe housing to people whose very lives are at risk because of their neurodiversity.

Please bring the whole family and enjoy some fun on the farm on September 23 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Summer smoothies hit the spot

With strawberries still abundant and our new outdoor kitchen ready to go, last week we prepared delicious fruit smoothies together.

Lily, our volunteer and engagement coordinator, froze some fresh berries and then got our blender whirring to make some naturally sweet treats. You can bet cold strawberry smoothies were a big hit on a warm summer day!

Members of Helpers Community help dedicate the outdoor kitchen. Farm volunteers smiling and posing with a blender jar full of strawberry smoothies.

We especially want to thank Helpers Community for the generous grant we received to build our new outdoor kitchen. What a great addition to the farm! Now we can make good on our promise to have our Seed to Salad garden be a full circle experience.

Thank you, Helpers Community, for broadening opportunities for people with intellectual or developmental disabilities to taste the goodness of the fresh produce we all grow together here at Common Roots Farm!

Wellness challenge supports Common Roots Farm

Last Friday, Janie Whiteford, Common Roots Farm Board President, gratefully accepted a $56,000 donation from the Intuitive Foundation. These funds were diligently raised through the efforts of individual employees at Intuitive Surgical who, for three months, logged their individual and group wellness actions, and selected Common Roots Farm as the beneficiary of all their efforts. Wow! What an achievement!

Intuitive Surgical employees plant trees on the farm. Intuitive Surgical employees pose with Janie Whiteford, Heidi Cartan, and a presentation check.

The support from Intuitive Surgical’s employees did not end with this donation. True to their company’s mission of improving lives, they have actively participated in monthly work days on the farm. Their dedication and hands-on effort have yielded fantastic results! From sowing seeds and transplanting to weeding and composting planting beds, not to mention fertilizing our orchard, these employees have been ready to tackle whatever tasks we needed.

To the wonderful Intuitive employees and The Intuitive Foundation: Your support has enriched our farm and fostered a sense of unity and purpose. You are truly fantastic, and we look forward to our continued partnership. Thank you all!
