An update from T.R. and Angie Knight
Serving with SIL International - Language Technology

REST Ministries Shepherd's Gate Inn front entrance

July 2023 - July has been a very busy month from a business perspective. Along with our normal daily work and ongoing projects, we have been working on Quarterly Reports for January to March, 2024 budgets, and 2024 funding proposals. June to August is a time for prioritizing and strategizing our work and ministry for the coming year. It can be very easy to let this all become overwhelming. We acknowledge that as a leadership team and set aside time for a Language Technology Leadership Team (LTLT) Retreat at the REST Ministries Shepherd’s Gate Inn in southwest Indiana.

The purpose of this LTLT Retreat was both to provide focused time in person as a leadership team and as a time to rest and relax together.  We started each day with a wonderful devotional provided by our host from REST Ministries where he shared with us about rest and the sabbath. The mornings and afternoons had us discussing topics such as the Vision, Core Values, and Priorities for Language Technology, developing a three-year strategic plan, reflecting on the organizational structure of Language Technology, and delving deeply into some high priority and time sensitive topics. Then each evening, we would spend time relaxing individually by exploring this amazing location or together chatting, playing games, or watching a movie.

[On a personal note, this is the first trip I have taken on my own since 2019 without Angie traveling with me. Our daughter Emily came home and cared for her mom so I could take this trip and be focused on the meetings and the respite. The hope is to be able to do this yearly.]

To give you a glimpse into our work, this is our current and updated work-in-progress vision statement for Language Technology:

We develop innovative technologies that enable communities to flourish in the languages they value the most.

We are praying and discussing this still along with many of the topics started at the retreat. The retreat was wonderful and I am already looking forward to doing this again next year.

God at Work

“God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supply.” - Hudson Taylor

Here are some things He has done recently:

  • The LTLT (Language Technology Leadership Team) Retreat at the REST Ministries Shepherd’s Gate Inn July 10 to 14 provided focused time for our leadership team to really delve into our department vision and strategies, organization, and priorities.

  • Robert Clementz seconded from Wycliffe to SIL to take upon the role of Talent Acquisition Manager for Language Technology. He will be working with T.R. on recruiting and mobilization. They are already having passionate discussions about universities and career fairs to visit and ways to share the amazing work that SIL Language Technology is doing.

I hope this small glimpse encourages you to see what God is doing through all of us serving at SIL International.

Prayer and Praise

  • Please pray for an upspoken request that Angie and T.R. are working through.

  • Please pray for the Language Technology leadership team as we reflect and act upon the topics we began discussing in our Leadership Retreat in mid July.

  • Please pray as we work through the ETEN funding proposal process for 2024.

  • Praising God that all the teams’ April to June Quarterly Reports have been submitted.

  • Praising God that our daughter, Rachel, starts her new job on Monday, July 31.

  • Please let us know how can be praying for you!

Thank you for your prayers and encouragement.

In Him,
T.R. and Angie Knight

How can you support the work we are doing with SIL International?

Glad you asked! T.R. is currently in a fully funded position in his role as Director of Bible Translation Software. The finances come from a funding organization devoted to innovation in Bible Translation. Because T.R.’s position is fully funded, we are not currently requesting you to partner with us financially. What we could use the most are your prayers and encouragement. If you would like to financially support the work that SIL does, you can give online or via check. Currently, online donations go to a central fund for SIL. We are in process of implementing a new online donation website that would allow you to give to my department’s projects or even to my work specifically. If you give via check, you can include in the note field a designation of Bible Translation Software - KBTD16. Thank you for your prayers and support.
