This week's bulletin is shorter than usual as I had unexpected meetings sprung on me at very short notice which threw my schedule out! This is a fairly quiet week for our club in any case; other news stories from beyond our club will resume next week.
What's On This Week

We're starting to see more members able to attend meetings now that some who have been overseas are back home. We look forward to seeing you at Moerlina School.
No birthdays this week!
Last Week: Club Meeting

Last week, members were able to discuss a variety of ideas, particularly on the format and style of meetings, ahead of a survey that went out at the end of the week.

National Youth Science Forum

The National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) Year 12 Program is designed to give students a broader understanding of the diverse study and career options available in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and to encourage continued studies in these fields.

The NYSF Year 12 Program runs two summer sessions :

  1. The Australian National University, Canberra (5-13 January 2024)
  2. The University of Queensland, Brisbane (12-20 January 2024).

Participants stay at university colleges and are immersed in science and technology, and have the opportunity to:

  • participate in tours of science and technology facilities,
  • learn about cutting-edge research,
  • engage with industry partners and research providers,
  • learn about university, training and STEM career pathways,
  • mix with other like-minded students from all over Australia,
  • participate in social and team building activities, and
  • network with former NYSF participants.

Delivered by youth for youth, past participants return each year to participate in the Student Staff Leadership Program and help run the program the year after they first attend.

Applications are now open, and close on 31 July 2023.

Do you have news to include in the bulletin? Details of upcoming speakers, more background about new projects, photos of events and other information of interest to members and friends of the club? Please email them before Sunday to bulletin@rotaryfreshwaterbay.org.au - verbal updates and updates via other social avenues may not be remembered / seen by the time the bulletin is prepared!

JULY 2023
  • Wed 26th Jul - Club Meeting
Back in 2017, PRID Ken Collins led a Vocational Training Team from Perth to District 3261, Raipur, India. The team comprised of 3 doctors (PRID Dr.Ken Collins, Rtn. Dr. Barry Mandelawitz, Dr. Catherine Douglass) and 2 midwives (Clare Davison and Belinda Jennings). Their mission was to train the locals to assist them with their very high mortality rate of mothers and babies due to childbirth.

The training was very successful, with the Government wanting to expand the training to all of the 200 health workers in the District.
