Community Pharmacy England Pharmacy Vision: Last chance to share your views

Community Pharmacy England are seeking your views as per their article below:

Pharmacy Vision: please share your views

Nuffield Trust and The King’s Fund have  shared a summary of themes and  proposals for the future of community pharmacy and they are seeking feedback from community pharmacy stakeholders.

The online survey is the latest opportunity for pharmacy owners, LPCs and others in the sector to engage with our project to develop a Vision for Community Pharmacy.

Nuffield Trust and The King’s Fund want to hear your views on their proposals, ahead of the publication of the final report later this year. The vision is critically important, as it will be used to develop the future strategy for the sector and lay the groundwork for the next Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework (CPCF) negotiations.

The survey is asking for your thoughts on key aspects of the vision and its recommendations. The vision has been developed by Nuffield Trust and The King’s Fund following an extensive programme of research, interviews and meetings of the vision Steering Group, Advisory Panel, and Working Groups, all of which have contractors, LPCs and other representatives of the sector at their heart.

The vision project team are looking forward to hearing views from across the sector on their proposals and what will need to happen to make them a reality.

To participate, first read the draft summary slides on the vision report and then answer the questions around:

  • Your interest in and concerns around the proposals;
  • The implementation support needed; and
  • The policy changes required.

You can find out more and see what the questions are, here. Some questions in the survey ask respondents to rank various options, but additional thoughts can also be added in free-text comment boxes. The deadline for responses is 11.59pm on Monday 14th August 2023.

This important project was commissioned by Community Pharmacy England to work towards a better future, laying the ground for the next Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework (CPCF) negotiations which will be critical for the future of all community pharmacies.

We hope that as many pharmacy owners and LPCs as possible get involved to help make sure the final report is one that the whole sector can get behind.

Please report your price concession discrepancies via Community Pharmacy England reporting tool - Evidence needed for negotiations

We are aware that the current situation with price concessions is causing grave cash flow deficits for many Lincolnshire contractors with the situation for many now critical as they desperately try to keep their businesses afloat.

We strongly encourage you to report the details to Community Pharmacy England via their online reporting tool so that CPE have the evidence to support their negotiations.  The tool can be accessed here.

CPPE workshops to support your practice

CPPE have some useful workshops coming up over the next few months which may really help you and other pharmacy professionals in your team to support your patients This workshop will help you to describe what frailty means, recognise people living with frailty and offer them appropriate support, taking a person-centred approach to raising frailty issues and exploring a person’s own goals and priorities for their health and wellbeing.

This is a priority area for many ICSs, including Lincolnshire, and so may be invaluable for pharmacy professionals. This workshop will help pharmacy professionals to complete medicines reconciliation in accordance with national guidance, identify possible barriers and solutions to medicines reconciliation and to explain why this is important during transfer of care.

This is an important aspect of many pharmacy services, including the Discharge Medicines Service (which is an essential service) as well as for day-to-day community pharmacy practice to ensure we can support patients moving between care settings, including discharge from hospital, moving from home to care settings or returning after periods of respite care. Pharmacy technicians in particular have found this workshop invaluable.

The workshops above are supported by our very own Community Pharmacy Lincolnshire chair, and places are limited, so we advise you to book early!
