Hello hoomans! @cocoathecounselor here. If you are new to Student Life, let me introduce myself. I am our resident therapy dog and I have the best job on campus - getting to be there for our whole community. Follow me on Instagram (@cocoathecounselor) or stop by and say hello around campus!
August is my FAVORITE month because this is when I get the most belly rubs and ear scritches from all our newcomers - it's a doggy dream come true! However, sometimes along with all my excitement comes a furry of stress and a dash of dread that can sound a little like: omg did I forget to do something, how am I going to be in 3 places at once, is it even possible to get all this done, I'm only one doggo, what if I don't do this wrong, what if I mess up, yikes!! And honestly, if I spin out like that, I end up exhausting myself before we really even get started. SO I have found it helps to take a paws and LITERALLY make a list of everything I am looking forward to, the things I like most about my canine responsibilities, the goals or aspirations I have for myself personally and professionally, the things that make my tail wag. And you know what I notice? My tail will start to wag just thinking about it.
In case you need some inspo, I had my hooman type up my list:
- Charming the masses at Skutt Shutdown
- Basking in the summer sunset at Taste of Creighton
- Seeing new students smile when they see me but who are too shy to come say hi & then I say hi anyways
- Snoring in counseling sessions for comic relief
- Mentoring my new furriend and coworker, our therapy dog Ella (stay tuned on my 'gram for deets!)
- Teaching Ella the ropes and inspiring her to go out and seek belly rubs with confidence
- "Borrowing" the occasional baked good if the opportunity presents itself
- Comforting hoomans when their faces get wet & salty
So did this make your tail wag?? Now, it's your turn.
