Happy Thursday!

Welcome to the latest edition of the GrepBeat newsletter! As mentioned before, Social Media Producer Jackie, yours truly, will take on the reins this week. Buckle up and let's dive into the world of Triangle tech!

But first, quick question: if Twitter is now X, what is the new term for 'tweeting'? Someone let me know. (It's all very confusing.)

Gradient Health

Four in 10 U.S. adults say they have delayed or gone without medical care in the last year due to high costs, according to a 2022 poll by Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF).

Duke alum Josh Miller created Durham-based Gradient Health, a SaaS platform that uses AI to facilitate medical research and reduce healthcare costs. Using the HIPAA safe harbor method, the platform has collected over 300 million patient studies from over 1,000 partner hospitals and provides data for research in fields like radiology, pathology and genomics.

Allsecurity

Raleigh software company Allstacks announced that it has achieved SOC 2 and SOC 1 certifications, providing customers with the assurance that their valuable data is secure. “We know that any risk to data is incredibly uncomfortable for our customers. It is a point of pride for Allstacks to have no exceptions to our data security,” Co-founder and CTO Jeremy Freeman said. See the announcement here

Allstacks Co-Founder & CEO Hersh Tapadia appeared on our weekly livestream, The Friday Nooner in June 2022. Watch the full episode here

Investment

It's been a big week for our sister organizations!

First up: Primordial announced its latest addition to this year’s cohort: MyMatR. Founded in Raleigh, MyMatR has developed smart waste containers for public spaces that sort waste at the source, benefiting organizations in their recycling efforts. The company has participated in RIoT’s Accelerator Program (RAP) and received an NC IDEA MICRO grant.

Speaking of, here's a joke I heard about recycling. What do you call two birds that you can recycle? Two cans...? Alright, anyway: see Primordial's full announcement here

We previously covered MyMatR back in 2021. Read the full story here.

Funding

Up second: Jurassic Capital announced today the closing of its oversubscribed inaugural fund, Jurassic Capital Growth Fund I, with over $30 million of commitments. Currently, the fund has five investments, including its latest investment in Zoomph, a sports marketing company based in Northern Virginia.

The firm is led by GrepBeat Godfather Joe Colopy and Kevin Mosley, who also hosts our Exit Stories podcast. (Exit Stories will return for its fourth season this fall, and you can listen to previous seasons here.)

See Jurassic Capital's announcement here.

Deadline

The application for Google for Startups' eighth annual Black Founders Exchange is coming up this Sunday, July 30. Hosted by the American Underground, the 2023 program will be held from Oct. 8–13. You can apply here.

We've covered startups from last year's cohort, such as ZROverse. Read the full story here
