Tuberville has put a senatorial hold on all confirmations of high ranking military officers. The result is that mission critical positions are left unfilled. Since February, the senator has been blocking every personnel move in the U.S. military that requires confirmation. He now has a senatorial hold on at least 270 — and counting.
The holds include the Commandant of the Marine Corps and in September will include the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Why it matters: Tuberville’s goal may be to hold up confirmations until another MAGA GOP president is elected. In that case, the new MAGA GOP leader can appoint military officers who will bend to the will of the ‘strongman.’ Refusing to confirm qualified people for high office until a MAGA leader is in power is a tried and true tactic of the MAGA GOP. It certainly worked well when Mitch McConnell denied confirmations for Supreme Court nominees. Once a MAGA GOP president came to power, the Senate then approved MAGA GOP justices who took away our rights.
Tuberville is an exemplar of the MAGA GOP lies and distortions used to grab and hold power.
FLVCS Involvement at Another Microforest Planting
In October 2020, FLVCS took on climate change by planting the first microforest in Florida at the Celery Fields Park in Sarasota County. Since that time, we have partnered with other community groups to plant several microforests. Now, we have been involved in the planting of more 10,000 trees.
On Thursday, August 3, 2023 from 8 AM to noon, the Rotary Club of Lakewood Ranch will plant yet another microforest that we are supporting.
Location: Greenbrook Adventure Park, 13010 Adventure Pl, Lakewood Ranch, FL 34202. From the parking lot, follow the signs to the microforest site a short walk away. Link to Map
Refreshments will be available. We will provide info about microforests and FLVCS. Please attend wearing your FLVCS shirt and cap. Let's show solidarity with the Lakewood Ranch Rotary Club and encourage others to plant more microforests to combat climate change and make our communities more livable.
