Elan Trotman

Born and raised in Barbados, and educated at the world-renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston, saxophonist Elan Trotman approaches jazz in his own exciting way. With his blending of Caribbean rhythms from his roots with skillful horn textures, his playing is full of surprises. The new England Urban Music Awards and the Barbados Music Awards both named him Jazz Artist of the Year on multiple occasions.

Trotman is considered one of jazz’s most thrilling and emotive performers as he continues to stand out and push boundaries with his distinctive tone.

Trotman has recorded and performed with a number of world-class musicians, including Michael McDonald, Roberta Flack, Marcus Miller, Earl Klugh, Peabo Bryson, Sheila E, and many others.
It’s a musical experience not to be missed!

Catch him on Saturday, August 19th at 3:00pm, at the Millennium Bandstand Stage.

OKAN

OKAN brings its sizzling fusion of Afro-Cuban roots with jazz, folk and global rhythms, once again to the TDMJF stage. With vocals in Spanish, English and Spanglish, OKAN’s two musical artists have individually received Grammy and Latin Grammy nominations.

They take their name from the word for “heart” in their region of Santeria, Cuba.
In songs about immigration, resistance and love, OKAN passionately advocates for freedom of expression, queer rights and gender equality. OKAN has gained a reputation for their powerful live performances, which showcase their incredible harmonies, virtuosic musicianship, potent lyrics as well as an unfailing ability to connect with audiences on a deep emotional level.

OKAN’s JUNO-winning release Espiral debuted in first place on Canada’s !Earshot charts and was included in NPR’s top 10 Alt latino and CBC Music’s top 20.

Witness their magic on Saturday, August 19th at 9:00pm at the Millenium Bandstand Stage.

Local and international artists deliver over 30 open-air performances during the weekend as well as in selected “hot spots” and at a ticketed opening-night concert. During the year, the festival hosts “Hot Spot Concerts” at selected venues in Markham. TD Canada Trust became its title sponsor in 2014.
