SSN Title Case Dinner

Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc band members please join us for the SSN Title Case Dinner & Presentation — August 24, 6pm at Moccasin Square Garden. This presentation will update the community on the Stk'emlupsemc te Secwepemc Nation (SSN) Land Title court case progress, evidence gathering, government and mining company positions, as well as related court cases and their implications for the title case.

Power Outage August 22

A planned BC Hydro Power outage is set for August 22, affecting the entire Chief Louis Center, which includes KIRS, Annex, PetroCanada, ANCO, MSG, Powwow grounds, Sk'elep, Little Fawn, and others. On this day, Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc will be closed. Kindly be aware that our phone system will be inactive due to the power outage. In case of an emergency, please reach out to department managers via their respective cell phones. Meaning of Empathy

This year for Overdose Awareness Day Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc is partnering with Interior Health and Addiction Matters Kamloops to present a screening of the movie “The Meaning of Empathy”. Please join us on August 31, 2023 at the Paramount Theatre downtown. If you have any questions, please call Rachel, TteS Mental Health & Addiction Navigator, at 250-320-4327.

Hunting Camp

Join us at the upcoming Hunting Camp from October 16-20! Location details will be provided soon. For more information and to get involved, contact Steve Basil at 250-851-6989. We'll be setting up a group camp, kitchen, tents/teepees, and meals will be provided. Make sure to have a self-contained camp, but don't worry, assistance will be offered for camp setup if needed. Looking forward to a great camp experience!

Language Conference

The Secwepemctsín Language Conference 2023 is scheduled to take place from November 3rd to 5th at the Coast Hotel and Conference Centre in Kamloops, BC. The conference aims to promote and enhance the learning of the Secwepemctsín language. The organizers are inviting potential partners and sponsors to support the event through financial contributions. Proceeds from the event will be directed towards funding its activities. Vendors are also encouraged to participate by showcasing and selling their products. More details about sponsorship packages and event information can be obtained by contacting Gabe Archie via email at gabriel.archie@ttes.ca. Additional information about the conference and vendor opportunities will be provided in the future.

Our new grocery store is on track for a Fall 2023 opening! Mark your calendars for our two upcoming job fairs. Thursday, September 14, 2pm - 7pm at MSG and Saturday, September 16, 11 to 3pm at Coast Hotel, Kamloops. Details in the poster below.

Secwepemctsín Certificate

If you're interested in getting a Certificate in Language Proficiency in Secwepemctsín from SFU, contact Gabriel Archie, Language Coordinator, at TteS. Limited seats. Classes will be held at TteS Language & Culture classroom in Kamloops. 2 days a week from 9am to 3:30pm. Program starts in September 2023.

Stswékstem Opens in Fall 2023

We're thrilled to announce that Stswékstem Solid Waste Management will be opening its doors in Fall 2023! As a special benefit for status Tk̓emlúps members, we're offering FREE drop-off services. Kindly ensure that your waste is properly separated upon arrival.

Please note the following guidelines:

  • Personal waste only
  • Limited to residential trucks & trailers
  • ALL commercial vehicles will be charged accordingly

DISPOSAL RATES will be applicable to TteS member-owned businesses, public members, and public businesses. Stay tuned for more updates and mark your calendars for the grand opening! Thank you for your cooperation and support.

Fishing Update from NRD

Due to important conservation concerns, there may not be any fishing by the TteS Natural Resources Department this season. There is a possibility of limited fishing towards the end of August or early September. The team is working hard to ensure the sustainability of our precious salmon stocks, and we appreciate your understanding and support in this effort. Let's all come together to promote ecosystem conservation and the sustainable use and harvest practices of fishing to protect our environment and allow our salmon to thrive.

New Therapist

We have a new therapist at Community Services! Leita McInnis will be joining us to offer counselling services. Please see the poster to see if she would be a good fit for you! If you have any questions, please contact Rachel Kilback at 250-320-4327.

Open Garden Harvest

Harvest FREE organic produce with the Tk'emlups Food Sovereignty Team! Tuesdays 10am - 2pm at Tk'emlups HotHouse, next to the Little Fawn Nursery. Thursdays 10am - 2pm, the Community Garden at the Youth Center Park on Kamloopa Way. For more information contact Community Services at 250-828-9810

EcDev Open House

Please join Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc Business & Economic Development team for our Fall Open House, September 26th from 3pm - 6pm in the Chief Louis Centre Assembly Hall, 345 Chief Alex Thomas Way. We will be showcasing all of the exciting projects we are working on.

Door prizes to be won, and a light dinner will be served.

WATT Electrical Program

The WATT Electrical Program will be available to band members of TteS starting in September. This practical training, partnered with Houle Electric, offers 6 to 12 months of paid on-the-job training for an electrical apprenticeship. Interested individuals, especially from the Secwepemc Nation, should promptly contact Terri, as trades math is a prerequisite. Immediate registration is encouraged.
