TteS Bylaws and water restriction are implemented by Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc, not the provincial government. Water Restrictions in effect include:

  1. A ban on outdoor watering and irrigating, with the exception of hand-held, spring-loaded nozzles.
  2. Irrigating by use of sprinklers or automatic irrigation systems is not permitted.
  3. Washing of vehicles and boats will only be permitted at commercial wash locations unless washing for safety purposes.
  4. Pressure washing for aesthetic purposes will not be permitted.

All British Columbians are responsible for the sustainability of water and aquatic ecosystems. All water users in drought-affected areas are asked to cooperate and contribute to the goal of conservation. Kukwstsétsemc for your cooperation.

This Week in Secwépemc History

August 25th, 1910, Indigenous Chiefs and Sir Wilfrid Laurier met in Kamloops, B.C., to present a letter on Land Claims, Aboriginal Rights, and Sovereignty. Due to Laurier's French-Canadian heritage and the historical alliances the French-speaking fur traders fostered, the Chiefs had faith in him. The Laurier Memorial – drafted by leaders including Secwépemc Chief Louis, Syilx Chief John Chilahitsa, and Nłeʔkepmx Chief John Tetlenitsa, and penned by James Teit – addressed European settlers’ exploits of Indigenous peoples’ hospitality. Laurier's resolution is unknown, as he lost the 1911 election, but in 1915, Chief Andre echoed frustration with government inaction. The Laurier Memorial sheds light on Indigenous rights in the century preceding 1910, reflecting the enduring fight for justice.
