Democracy Crumbles Before Our Eyes
The Republican Party that once fought to preserve the Union, protect civil rights, and keep the environment clean has degenerated into an anti-democratic, radical MAGA GOP movement.
The MAGA GOP movement is not a normal political party that adheres to the norms of democratic government. It is a revolutionary movement set on dismantling government as we know it in order to grab and hold power. It’s a national security threat.
MAGA GOP’s own words and actions confirm our belief along with the opinions of conservative Constitutional legal scholars. Here is the record:
A Coup Attempt:
MAGA GOP organized and executed an attempted coup on January 6, 2021 to prevent the democratic transfer of power after losing an election. It still advocates violence. On Saturday, August 12, 2023 in Iowa, MAGA GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) stood by the MAGA leader and said, “We know that only through force can we make any change in a corrupt town like Washington DC.”
Two conservative law professors have written an article that the MAGA GOP leader is disqualified for the presidency because he “engaged in insurrection” under Sec. 3, 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution .
Refusal to admit the truth about the January 6 coup attempt:
The MAGA GOP attempts to rewrite history with propaganda. They want people to believe the insurrection was something else. The propaganda started with the ridiculous notion that Jan. 6 was an ANTIFA black flag operation. Now, MAGA GOP spokesmen like DeSantis endeavor to diminish the seriousness by characterizing it as a protest gone awry.
Removing elected officials from office without legal cause:
MAGA GOP Governor DeSantis removes duly elected officials from office on his whim. A Federal judge has ruled DeSantis’ actions are unconstitutional, yet DeSantis persists.
Defiance of the courts:
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Alabama had to correct its gerrymandered congressional maps. The MAGA GOP legislature developed another map just as discriminatory. They know the new map is unconstitutional. They passed it anyway saying that if they don’t they know they’ll lose.
Christian Ziegler, Chair of MAGA GOP in Florida says, "Floridians don't care for the courts as much as they care about seeing elected officials take action on the promises made by those elected officials,”
Propaganda attacks:
MAGA GOP Rep. Steube has now filed for impeachment against the President. Steube refused to vote for impeachment when the MAGA GOP leader attempted a coup. Now, he files for impeachment against the political opposition based on nothing more than speculation, generalities, and unverified allegations as far we can determine from the public record.
These actions by MAGA GOP confirm that it’s an authoritarian movement motivated to destroy government as we know it.
Its techniques are straight from the fascist playbook: misinformation, lies, violence, and election fraud. Its goal is to sow chaos and disrupt everything. If MAGA GOP can convince fellow citizens that government doesn’t work and that their voices don’t count, it can step into power. We’re well down that road. Most Republicans still support MAGA GOP politicians. Other citizens are disheartened and confused. MAGA GOP’s propaganda and misinformation is working to build distrust and uncertainty so it can thrive.
The Fitch Credit Agency agrees. It has downgraded the credit rating of the United States. In Fitch's view, there has been a steady deterioration in standards of governance over the last 20 years including on fiscal and debt matters.
Although its efforts are not likely to be as dramatic as the attack on our Capitol on January 6, the MAGA GOP criminal conspiracy to overthrow the will of the people continues. MAGA GOP officials who supported, schemed and covered up for their leader seek to overturn our legal system to allow him to evade consequences. Unless the MAGA GOP is stopped, expect a spiral into chaos resulting in a loss of our freedoms, further erosion of our democratic norms, and a faltering economy to boot.
Stop MAGA GOP: Speak Up

Attend your local MAGA politicians’ events. Ask if they believe the presidential election was stolen? Point out their voting records that diminishes our rights.
Encourage Republican friends and family to repudiate MAGA GOP politicians so their party can be reclaimed as a normal political party.
