Vulnerability

I recently had an incredible experience with one of my EOS clients. We were doing their two day annual as a retreat. And you know what showed up at this retreat, above everything else?, was vulnerability. We learned that if vulnerability is there, trust can grow very quickly in a team.

These leaders were not afraid to show their vulnerability. We had some poignant moments, especially one when the integrator was reflecting on the past period. In their industry, it was a tough period, and he just stopped for a moment and shared that this was very, very hard, this past period.

Everyone rallied around and later on during the day, other people stepped up to the plate. They were vulnerable. They were in a place where the trust was building, and because the trust was building, we could have the difficult conversations, the robust conversations.

Conflict was seen as something that we have to work through as a team to go forward, and that brought incredible buy-in from everyone. They started holding each other more and more accountable. And the results followed. We could put together an incredibly strong plan for them for the year ahead. Good, solid rocks that will drive their progress in the next quarter.

And it all stems from one thing, vulnerability. We are all in this together as a team, and each team member has got his or her contribution to the team. By being real, but by being vulnerable, we need it. We rally around each other and trust builds.

So there you have it.
