West Ponce Music Festival + Maker Fun!

West Ponce businesses open their patios and parking lots, transforming them into stages for a day of free live music and fun for the fifth annual West Ponce Music Stroll on September 9, 2023. Bands will play at businesses along West Ponce de Leon Avenue throughout the day. In the evening, a large stage outside The Marlay will host three bands to culminate the day. The event is free and family friendly!

The day kicks off with the second annual 5K run and dog walk hosted by Fleet Feet. There will be an artists market with local makers selling products, a creative showcase of chalk artists, and scheduled yoga and fitness classes throughout the morning hosted by Clarity Fitness.

The Music Stroll takes place 8 am to 10 pm along West Ponce de Leon Avenue. Proceeds benefit the all-ages non-profit makerspace Decatur Makers.

Education Partner

We were happy to host a Textile Design workshop day with camp Odyssey this summer! Odyssey focuses on Atlanta Public School students from underserved communities, to offer motivated students STEAM summer camp experiences year after year.

At their Decatur Maker stop, students worked with fabric stamping and embellishing to create their own one of a kind totes. What an awesome group of kids and educators!

Volunteer Appreciation

We gathered this August to celebrate our Volunteers! Decatur Makers is lucky to have over 90 Volunteers in its ranks. They show up for Events, Youth Clubs, Clean Up Days, Board Meetings and everything in between.

Volunteers, you build and maintain the foundation for this big beautiful inclusive maker community and we all send hearty thank yous and hold deep appreciation for everything you do!

The Show and Tell channel is bursting with great projects this month! Robert and Shelly created these scale clay models for some big projects in the works- we can't wait to see where they're going! Sandra combined lasercut plywood and watercolor, glueing layers to form this intricate mermaid. Marcus shared both these gorgeous Canarywood and Walnut & Purpleheart cutoff turned pieces and his appreciation for the grounding creative process he's cultivated in the woodshop. Kim created a special gift of an earing holder for her daughter and a key ring for herself, to keep her 24/7 access DM key fob close while she's making.

It's been a busy summer in the shop, with a diversity of projects that make us all proud to be a part of this creative community!

Youth Build Club

Youth Build Club is off to an awesome start! Tweens took over the space to create a carnival of Cardboard Arcade games. From a Ronaldo soccer theme, to classic Skee-Ball, to a claw machine that is totally going to work next time, these kids drew from their experience and sparks to take their club to the next level! Next month, they'll add motors and lights into the mix. We. Can't. Wait!
