IMMERSIVE
IMMERSIVE

Want a clear a room of immersive creators?

Start talking about business.

Margins. Markets. Operations. Distribution.

I mean, seriously, did any of us get into the arts to talk about profit and loss?

But let’s be honest. It haunts us. We can’t produce creative work without resources and for most of us, resource means money. And money means sponsorships and most of all, audiences. And by audience we mean actual human beings that will pay their hard-earned dough for a taste of what we do. Why do people spend hundreds, if not thousands to hear Taylor Swift sing songs they could sing in their sleep? Because TS has figured out that people will pay for what they care about and if you take care of what they care about, they will spend the money you need to run a billion-dollar worldwide tour.

Which brings us to the Immersive Immersive. In a nutshell, Denver is hosting the next big thing in immersive, after the Denver Immersive Gathering. And while the DIG was about love, and creativity and community, the Immersive Immersive is about distribution. And before you bleh yourself into boredom, consider this: Distribution is the mechanical word for building a national and international network of places ready to build audiences, sell tickets, and support your work.

Do we have your interest?

Great.

Because once again Denver is a the center of the biggest, most important idea in immersive. And this time it’s about bringing together producers and artists and starting a conversation about selling your immersive work across the country.

Oh yeah.

COMMUNITY NEWS

Congratulations to DCPA Off-Center's New Line Producer!

Earlier this summer, we advertised for DCPA Off-Center's Line Producer position. From what we've heard, the number of incredibly qualified applicants was so overwhelming that the posting was closed after opening for a brief window.

We're thrilled to congratulate Courtney Ozaki on her new position with Off-Center and can't wait to see what the future holds! We're also thrilled to hear how much talent we have in the community.

Can we gush a second? Courtney is one of us. She is a natural collaborator, a connector, creator and a doer. We couldn't me more pleased and excited for her and the entire Immersive Denver Community.

Congrats Courtney!

Catamounts announce their 2024 Season!

After another successful Feed in August, The Catamounts will be back with Impossible Things (May 24-June 16, 2024), created in collaboration with visual artist Lonnie Hanzon.

A building, reminiscent of an English curio shop, is being built into the hillside at Marjorie Park located next to Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre. It will contain a new permanent exhibit, created by its original designer, Lonnie Hanzon–The Cabinet of Curiosities & Impossibilities. The Catamounts are collaborating with Hanzon to create an immersive theatre experience in and around the newly expanded exhibit. Impossible Things will be written by Colorado playwright Jessica Austgen.

Impossible Things begins at a coming-of-age ceremony. Audience are cast as young people on the cusp of adulthood. But what happens when the ceremony is disrupted by haunts from the new adults’ childhoods, there to lead them back once more into a space not of responsibility but of imagination and impossibility?

Late in the summer of 2024 will be the world-premiere of After the End (August 5, 2024–September 14, 2024), created in partnership with Anythink Huron, an Adams County-based library. After the End asks: what happens to fictional characters once the story ends? When their last reader no longer remembers them, where do they go? If their author is gone, are they? After The End is a journey through the bardo-esque landscape of wayward storybook characters who are fighting for survival in a world intent on forgetting them. We think of reading a story as entering a portal into a new world, but in this immersive theatre experience, the portal comes after the story ends. After the End will be written by Colorado playwright Luke Sorge.

SHOW WE'D LIKE TO SEE
The Advice
You arrive and are escorted into a room. Your group is small, maybe 2-3 people. Pam enters and explains what is about to happen. She tells you about her life, her dreams, her aspirations. She details her enemies, her crushes and her relationships. She explains that her office party is on the other side of the door. And before she goes in, she wants help. As a group, you give her advice. Chat up the boss? Admit her feelings for a coworker? Confront Judy, who she is sure is stealing her lunch from the freezer? Or should she just be quiet and get through the night? Once you have finished giving your advice, you all enter the party. That’s when you realize that there are a dozen other characters who have been given advice by other audience members. Grab a drink and a canapé, this party is about to get real.
