Upcoming Events

Crab Feast, September 9th 3-7pm at the Black Butterfly Farm
The Farm Alliance will be teaming up with Nosreme Baltimore Inc, an up and coming non-profit that aims to increase access to healthy food and vibrant art in neglected Baltimore neighborhoods. Together, we will host an epic crab feast for our local community in Brooklyn. The event will take place at the Farm Alliance’s Black Butterfly Teaching Farm located at 3901 West Bay Avenue and will support Nosreme’s mission to build an artist’s residence and communal dining restaurant in Baltimore.

The Smell of Money Movie Screening, September 17th 4-8pm
Join The Farm Alliance of Baltimore at Baltimore Montessori Public Charter School for a film screening of Shawn Bannon's The Smell of Money.

This film follows Elsie Herring and her North Carolina community as they fight the world's largest pork corporation; they fight for their freedom to enjoy fresh air, clean water, and a life without the stench of manure. See the trailer for the film here. After the film screening, enjoy an audience Q&A with Jamie Berger, who helped write and produce the film.

Join us for a tour of the farm and learn more about their regenerative agriculture practices and how they raise chickens and grow a variety of vegetables on about 2.5 acres for their CSA, restaurants and wholesale customers.
We've got a full line up of these events. Tickets are free for Farm Alliance Members, ECO City & Future Harvest Trainees and just $15 for the public.

From the Field

We had a blast at our second annual Community Day at the Black Butterfly Farm! It was wonderful to spend the day with our neighbors, we colored, held sack races and made bouquets together. Our team gave farm tours and guests were even able to dig their own potatoes!
Crystal Forman of Holistic Wellness & Health led a cooking demo using freshly harvested eggplant, tomatoes and summer squash from the farm and we were joined by our neighbors Filbert Street Garden and twinkie the goat. By the end of the day we had distributed around 400 pounds of produce to over 60 guests!

Black Butterfly Bulletin

Our Farm team is really seeing the fruits of all their hard work at The Black Butterfly Farm, that is to say the harvests have been bountiful! If you look closely you can spot Farmer Andy in the dense field of Okra in the picture above. Each week we're bringing in more crops than the last and on top of it all, we've begun preparing for fall at the farm! We look forward to the cooler days ahead, but it's sure been a joy to have such a bounty to share with our customers, staff and neighbors!

Happy Summer! See you soon!
