This year, with the launch of the national contraceptive service, we thought it would be useful to ask our GP guest speaker, Dr Claire Brookings, to give a presentation based on:

‘Supporting contraceptive choice: How do you assist in providing the right option for patients?’

Our Guest Speaker: Dr Claire Brookings

Dr Brookings qualified from St George’s Hospital Medical school in 1999. She obtained her MCRP in 2002. She first worked in Sexual Health in 2003 and never looked back.

After a year of traveling and several sets of maternity leave, she qualified as a consultant in 2013, having worked at St. Mary’s Hospital Paddington and Chelsea and Westminster.

She has worked in LISH for the last 10 years. Family planning became more prominent in her role with the integration of care 2012. She has been the Family Planning Lead Consultant for 10 years and a FRT trainer for 4 years.

Since moving to Lincolnshire she now not only has 3 boys but also a dog, 4 chickens and a cat.

We are very much looking forward to welcoming her to our AGM.

Signposting Support: Cancer Support Team

Useful information to assist pharmacy professionals in supporting those living with cancer in the county below, from the Cancer Support Team.

The Lincolnshire Living with Cancer Programme was established by Macmillan Cancer Support in June 2016.  Since then, the programme has expanded to include Acute, Personalisation and Community Development Teams. And in 2022 the Lincolnshire Integrated Care Board agreed to provide substantive funding for the programme enabling the team to continue their valuable work.

The primary objective of the Living with Cancer Community Development Programme has been to create a robust offer of health and wellbeing support for people living with cancer across Lincolnshire communities, and this has been achieved by engaging with partnership organisations to identify existing community assets and create new opportunities for support.

The programme seeks to address health inequalities that are created by a lack of access to support for individuals who are affected by cancer due, to Lincolnshire’s complex demographic, and workstreams have been influenced and shaped by stakeholder feedback.

Projects include the establishment of a successful cancer rehabilitation physical activity programme and a countywide psychological support offer, with additional packages of support currently under development.

Our goal for pharmacies is to create a model of support to give staff members the tools, training, and resources they need to better help cancer patients in Lincolnshire. Working together, we hope to understand the challenges pharmacy teams encounter while assisting individuals who are both newly diagnosed and living with cancer, by sharing our knowledge of local resources that are available and that patients can be signposted to.

We hope to create a lasting partnership that aids the development of a support offer which is easily accessible by patients, both in person and online.
