Nothing changes.......if nothing changes
For some of you a season is ending, for some of you a season is starting - nevertheless the constant struggle of finding enough hands to continue to help our clubs or community groups operate still continues to challenge our community.

Some of you might be preparing for an AGM, this is the perfect time to start thinking about 'how can we do things better?'.

The last 12 months has seen our Community Sustainability program deliver numerous events, workshops and activities that focused on things like Social Media & Marketing, how to use Canva, Succession Planning and Governance, preparing for grants, dealing with conflict and attracting volunteers.

We certainly covered off on a lot of topics and it's been rewarding to watch our volunteers, community members and committees put these skills to work.

So dont let all these new skills fall by the wayside, put them into action BUT most importantly share these skills with your committees/volunteers and help keep the progress moving.

The Times They are a changin!
In the words of the famous Bob Dylan - The times they are a changin! Our world is different to what alot of us remember it being, it's really important to remember to be flexible and to accommodate those who operate in the new age way of life i.e. social media, text messaging, emailing etc.

The cost of living has seen great impacts on volunteer numbers - so how can we look to operate differently and still include those that now have to work full time?

What types of things can you ask of them that maybe they can contribute to without being too demanding? Maybe it could be managing a Facebook page or creating posters and flyers or it could be something as simple as cleaning a clubroom or toilet once a fortnight.

Our communities are busy but they don't want to see our clubs and groups disappear, so it's really important to start looking at things with a different lense - don't be afraid to think outside the square.

Keep up the great work everyone, and thank you for your participation.

Community Development & Special Project Officer
Tammy O'Malley

WLIS Grants are now open!
Individuals and Organisations are encouraged to apply now!

Sport has the power to set new benchmarks and drive positive social change; one being equal representation in sport.

Through striving to achieve gender equity in sport it sets an important tone for the wider Australian public. It also opens doors for the next generation, shakes up unconscious bias and helps advocate for respectful behaviour towards women.

To help achieve this the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) established the Women Leaders in Sport (WLIS) program which to date has supported more than 26,000 women and more than 800 sport organisations.

The ASC manages the WLIS program through the support of the Office for Women who have a vested interest in this space.

Is your organisation looking for volunteers?

Well thats a silly question isn't it!

Having identified that volunteering is on the decline and according to the ABS, volunteer numbers across the district fell from 35.5% in 2016 to 27% in 2021 correlating to a total reduction of 326 people.

With a total of 129 community groups and sporting clubs that heavily rely on volunteers, this decline is having an impact on project, program, and service delivery.

Community Groups or Sporting Clubs are encouraged to submit a 'Volunteers Needed' flyer to be included in this spot of this monthly newsletter.
