Welcome, New Directors!
We're very pleased to have welcomed two new members onto our Board of Directors this month: Gala Milne and Morgan Slusar!
Gala is taking on the workshops and events portfolio and will be unveiling the VTL's very first workshops in the coming months. It's always been a goal of the VTL to equip our community with tools and the training on how to use them, so we couldn't be happier to have Gala on board to make this happen! If you're a maker, tinkerer, trades-person, and have some skills you'd like to share, please get in touch with Gala at events@vancouvertoollibrary.com. Workshop topic suggestions are also welcome!
Morgan is our second new board member, and will be taking over the Volunteer Coordinator portfolio. We always have new opportunities for volunteers to get involved at our events and in the shop, and volunteering offers you a great opportunity to learn more about tools or share your skills with the community. Fill out this volunteer intake form if you're interested!
Membership Drive - Refer a Friend
Our referal special has been extended to the end of February! Between now and then, we're encouraging all our current members to refer their friends and family to the VTL. As a thanks to you for helping to spread the word, we will add one month to the duration of your annual maintenance fee for every new member that signs up after your referral! Just remind the potential member to drop your name when they sign up, and we'll automatically add the free month to your account. There is no limit on the number of referals you make (or free months you gain)!
Tool of the Month - Winner and Donation!
January's tool of the month voting closed last weekend and results came very favourably for the mini drill press, a much needed tool that's been missing from our inventory. In a delightful twist of fate, however, a very generous tool donor dropped a drill press off at the shop before we even had time to start fundraising! The new drill press will be availalbe to borrow by this weekend. A huge thanks goes out to this anonymous donor and the others who have dropped off tools this month, including Molly Caron who donated a table saw (bringing our total up to two) and a ladder, and Lazlo Szentirmai, who donated a cordless drill.
Committees
Joining our volunteer Committees is a great way to get involved with the VTL and apply specific skills and talents that you posess. Committees are working groups that help Board Members work on tasks related to their portfolio with the VTL. We currently have openings on our volunteer, tool, and budget committees. Please send an email to Chris at president@vancouvertoollibrary.com for more information or if you're interested in joining!

Renewal Policy Updated
Policy... sure, it's boring, but you can get excited that it's been updated it to serve you better! We recently made changes to our Tool Renewal Policy (we now allow certain tools to be renewed up to two times), and Tool Donation Policy (we now require a Tool Officer to be present in the shop to receive tool donations). Read all the details over on the VTL Blog!
