Back to School at Forest Hills Connection

The kids are back in class, and we are back in the saddle, after taking a break for much of August. We continued to publish with the help of some talented Murch fourth and fifth graders who allowed us the honor of reprinting some of their work in their school newspaper. The Blue and Gold marked its first decade with a retrospective (illustrated above by a fifth grade artist). Then, it was all about the news:

And we are late with this newsletter, so there's lots to tell you about. Read on for news about local businesses, a special meeting on the DC Archives project at UDC, and more.

Laliguras closes, but new businesses are incoming

Our latest Business in Brief has the sad news about Laliguras, and a tantalizing tidbit about the former Uptown Market space.

New DC historical archives at UDC

ANC 3F is hosting a special meeting on Wednesday, September 6th on the archives project. UDC and archives officials are scheduled to present and answer questions during what's billed as “community clarification and discussion.”

Here are more details and the link to the virtual meeting

We also posted the archives presentation and some highlights from the regular ANC meeting in July. And the ANC will be voting at its regular meeting on September 19th on whether to support UDC campus plan amendment going before the Zoning Commission on September 21st.

An ANC 3F special election is coming up. Stay tuned for the date and details on the candidates running for the vacant ANC 3F01 seat.

Art All Night is coming up. Here are four things it might help to know about the local arts and local business-boosting event at the end of September.

The neighborhood news in August 2016

Workers were rushing to complete Murch Elementary's temporary swing space on the UDC campus. Van Ness restaurants were fretting over food trucks. And we were looking forward to the opening of Sfoglina and the arrival of Sunday brunch in the neighborhood.
