SEPTEMBER NEWSLETTER

A Message from the Vice Provost

Dear Colleagues,

We find ourselves in the midst of another academic year with many asks pulling us in different directions. It is a season of new beginnings: welcoming our students back to campus; planning new and returning programming, setting our expectations for our teams and ourselves. I hope each of you are settling into your usual routines and continuing to build relationships with each other and our campus partners.

In the spirit of collaboration and creating an even stronger team, I want to provide an update on our divisional meetings. We heard from you that we do not meet as a Student Life team as much as you'd like. So, we have changed our meeting cadence to monthly, and will meet with our larger staff development group quarterly. We want to highlight the work that we all do to provide the best experience for our students and meeting monthly will allow us time to celebrate and learn together. Please see Dr. Bogard's updates on the meetings later in this newsletter.

Next, I want to commend all of you on another successful Move-In and Welcome Week! I know there were hurdles to overcome, but it is a testament to our team's collaboration that we can quickly pivot and ensure a pleasant experience for our newest Bluejay families. I thank you for your assistance, flexibility and grace toward your teammates during this time.

As the semester fully gets underway, I hope you all keep our mission in the center of your focus:

"Guided by our Catholic, Jesuit values and in support of the Creighton University mission, Student Life provides programs and services enhancing student experiences. In partnership with the campus, we foster holistic student development in the Ignatian tradition, to produce students engaged in their communities with compassion, confidence and character."

Respectfully,

Tanya

A Message from Cocoa

Hello hoomans! @cocoathecounselor here.

I wanted to introduce you all to my new furriend and Counseling staff member: Ella the therapy dog!! While I am still the o.g., she will be my new mentee. I'll be showing her the ropes and teaching her what it means to be a Creighton therapy doggo. For instance, I have taught her how to model for the camera (I meannnn... can I get a round of appaws for her modeling skillz here?!), how to roll over for belly rubs at opportune times, how to woo a crowd of oncoming students with big tail wags, how to infuse comic relief into meetings with a snore or a sigh, and most importantly, how to be the cutest most comforting presence in our waiting room.

We doggos hope to continue to provide our campus community with joy, comfort, and of course, mental health education this year!  Stay tuned @cocoathecounselor for all the activity.

A Thank You From NSO
Submitted by Kailyn Tauber

I wanted to send you all a HUGE THANK YOU for all of your help and hard work during our move-in and welcome weekend. As you all have seen firsthand, this is a HUGE undertaking that cannot be done by a single person, office, or even department. It truly takes a village, and we are so thankful for you all taking the time out of an already busy schedule to help us welcome new students! From heat to thunderstorms, we got to see it all over the move-in weekend, and it truly could not have happened without each and every one of you.

Cheers to the class of 2027, and good luck to you all on the start of another great academic year!

Dance Marathon Wins 2023 Miracle Worker Award

Creighton University's Dance Marathon, which is annually hosted by Fraternity and Sorority Life, recently won the 2023 Miracle Worker Award.

The Miracle Maker Awards are given annually to the Dance Marathon programs that had the highest combined monetary and percentage increases in their overall fundraising over the previous year. These programs demonstrate that it is possible to continue to build a lasting tradition on campus and grow their fundraising year-after-year for their local member hospital of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Programs are categorized for the awards based on their previous year fundraising level as a Miracle Network Dance Marathon program.

In 2022 Creighton's Dance Marathon raised $72,645.13 and had over 1100 students participate in the event. The 2023 Dance Marathon will take place on October 21, 2023.
