Meet and Greet and Eat with the Rabbi

was a Lovely Afternoon Gathering

On a gorgeous late summer afternoon 27 new, prospective, and longer term members gathered in the beautiful hilltop home of Donna and Tom Small to nosh, shmooze and get to know each other.

Mid-afternoon Rabbi Debi asked everyone to share one or both of the following: what is your story in a nutshell and what is your favorite Jewish holiday? After everyone had spoken, and the Cal grads and former Ohio residents, in particular, shared their histories, these became new topics for more shmoozing.

A BIG TODAH RABAH goes to the Smalls for opening their home and to caterer Chef Daniel Milian for platters of food.

If you weren’t able to attend, you missed something special, but we hope to see you at the High Holy Days, starting with the Erev Rosh Hashanah potluck on September 15th.

From SYVJC member Linda Gordon……Kidney Donor Needed for her Grand Nephew Eli

Dear SYVJC Friends,

I am writing this on behalf of Erin Freeman Rosamond, my niece and the daughter of my sister Bobbi Freeman who passed away almost two years ago. Erin and her husband, Phillip, live in San Antonio with their 6-year-old daughter Jessi and their 9-year-old son, Eli.

Eli needs a kidney transplant. He was diagnosed with end-stage renal disease in February 2023. He started dialysis treatment shortly after. Dialysis must be performed every night on this little boy for 10 hours until a kidney can be found.

Due to the shortage of deceased donated organs, 20 people die each day while waiting for a transplant. Finding a living donor is the best option for Eli because it will work better and last longer than a deceased kidney. For this reason, Erin is asking everyone’s help and support to share Eli’s story.

Feel free to e-mail, text or post on social media. If posting on social media, make sure to type in the caption “Please help share! To learn more about kidney donation, visit https://bit.ly/3gezeld. If you want to become a living donor for Eli, visit UTCLivingDonor.com. #Kidney4Eli #PleaseShare #ChampionForLife.”

Even if you or your contacts don’t want to be a donor, Erin asks that you get the word to your networks because, hopefully, someone may be a willing match or know someone in their network who would be willing.

Eli needs a transplant to survive. Let’s do what we can to help give this little boy a second chance at life. Help spread awareness to help save Eli’s life.

If you want to reach Erin or if you have questions or need clarification about any of this, you can reach Erin at erinfreeman@aol.com and (210) 421-4621.

Thank you,

Linda
