📰 Platteville 100 years ago

Did you know that you can search digitized local historical newspapers on the Library’s computers? Here’s a look at a few of our favorite headlines from the front page of The Platteville Journal on September 5, 2023:

  • How the Fair Looked Monday Night - A Last Glance at the Grounds Before The Big Badger Fair Opened. It’s a Real Fair, Folks!

  • That Thermometer? The Journal Placed It For You. Just HOW hot is it in Platteville, any way? Wouldn’t you like to know for sure?

  • The Pageant of Mysteries, Under Direction of M. A. Bishop. This is not the pageant given here on July 4 and 5. It is new in every detail and entirely different. The scene opens in the Witches Cave about the year 1400.

  • Dorothy Nehls Has Story Accepted: Published in Child Life on Her Thirteenth Birthday: Platteville has a young authoress in the person of Miss Dorothy Nehls, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Nehls East Furnace Street.
