2024 Australia Day Nominations Open

Do something special for a friend and nominate them for a 2024 Australia Day Award.

Nominations are now open across eight categories to celebrate Douglas locals who have gone above and beyond for the community in the past 12 months.

We have so many incredible, selfless and modest people who give back to the community.

$10,000 Grants Available Under New Funding Model

Douglas Shire Council is introducing two new annual community grant funding streams.

A maximum of $10,000 is available to each successful applicant in the following streams:

  • Community Facilities Grant
  • Community Activities and Events Grant

The EOI round closes on October 6.

Changed Operating Hours – Mossman Pool

A number of changes to pool operating hours will occur during the upcoming swimming carnival season.

The Pool will be closed during the following dates and times:

  • Thursday, 19 October – 9am to 3pm
  • Friday, 20 October – 9am to 3pm
  • Tuesday, 7 November – 8am to 3:30pm
  • Monday, 13 November – 7:30am to 3:30pm
  • Tuesday, 14 November – 9am to 3pm
  • Friday, 1 December – 9am to 3pm
  • Tuesday, 5 December – 9am to 2:30pm
  • Friday, 8 December – 10:30am to 3pm
Kings birthday public holiday is Monday, 2 October 2023. During this Public holiday Mossman Pool & Caravan Park will will be open from 10am to 3pm

Daintree River Ferry Safety Upgrade Charters A More Reliable

Residents and tourists can look forward to a safer and more reliable Daintree River Ferry service after a crucial upgrade begins next month.

For regular ferry travellers and visitors it will be business as usual during the day, and a slight adjustment to the late night schedule on some evenings.

Douglas Shire Mayor, Michael Kerr said most users won’t notice any difference to their routines or be forced to change holiday plans.

Mossman Pump Track Closed For Refurbishment

Refurbishment of the Mossman Pump Track at George Davis Park on Foxton Ave is scheduled to start Monday 16 October.

The refurbishment is being done by Papillon Landscapes who estimate the work will take two weeks. While the work is underway, the track will be completely fenced off and closed to the public.

It will reopen on Saturday 28 October 2023.

Feedback Sought On Shared Pathway

Douglas Shire Council has been working with Port Douglas State School and the Department of Transport to improve safety for students travelling to and from school. 

Council is seeking feedback from residents of Undine Street and Ribbon Avenue about putting in a shared pathway.

Aerial Hiptage Surveys – October 2023

Council’s biosecurity team and Queensland Parks & Wildlife Service Mossman will be conducting aerial Hiptage surveys in October.

This will involve low-level operations in a helicopter around Mossman and surrounds on October 4 & 5.

Times are between 7.00am and 3.00pm on both days, weather permitting.
