In August we will begin removing all email addresses that have not opened the CARL Newslette during the previous 6 months. We realize that subscribers for whatever reason may no longer be interested,  but haven't unsubscribed. We use the free version of MailChimp to publish our newsletter, so those funds can instead be used for the dogs. The free version of Mailchimp allows us a set number of email addresses we can have to send our newsletter to. Thank you for your understanding. 
 
 

2023 CARL Pooch Parade
 
The 2023 CARL Pooch Parade that was scheduled for August 20, 2023 was postponed due to Hurricane Hilary that was downgraded to a tropical storm just before landing in Mexico. It traveled  on to San Diego and on thru the Los Angeles and Ventura counties. We had demonstration dogs and trainers coming from San Diego, vendors from all areas and dog walkers that were traveling from different areas to have their dogs walk in the 2023 CARL Pooch Parade. 

As a caution, for all involved the 2023 CARL Pooch Parade that was postponed, has now been scheduled for September 24, 2023. 10am-3pm, at the Ventura Harbor Village! 

You can still sign up to walk your dog(s) in the Pooch Parade, enter your dog(s) in fun contests, try to win raffles, visit vendors, and see some of the CARL dogs available for adoption!

  Sailor and Friends dog adoption event, August 5, 2023
It was a beautiful Saturday in Ventura. Toni led the team. To assist her were volunteers Tom, Mike,
Christina, Brenda, Jose and Kathy. Additionally, Jonlyn and Steve stopped by. Our fur babies were Otis,
Rico, Everest, Canelo and Christina’s two foster chows Izzy and Nellie. It was a slow day. We had very
few visitors. My guess is probably because of the Ventura County Fair. Also, that's probably why there
was no flea market across the street. In my 7 years of volunteering at CARL, I have learned the following.
First of all, adoption events are crucial. That is where people meet their fur babies face to face. CARL has
experienced their greatest success in finding forever homes for our fur babies at them. Focusing on the
events, I am sorry to say that Catherine has decided to retire her 2 monthly events in Simi Valley and
Thousand Oaks. However, Grace has decided to return to Petsmart in Ventura to start hers up again.
Also, Mary O. is going to start one soon in Camarillo. The keys to succeeding with these events are
location, storage space, teams, and consistency. Locations require visibility and storage. Two teams are
required for each event. One for set-up and tear down. The other for dog transportation to and from the
sanctuary in Santa Paula. Keep these thoughts in mind when planning to start your own event. All of
these wonderful volunteers can give you advice and guidance from what they have learned. Don’t be
afraid to ask.  Also, Toni and her gang will be back at Sailor and Friends on September 2, 2023 with our fur babies. Please stop by.

Skunkmasters, Ventura, Sunday, August 6th, 2023, 11am – 2pm
        
  Sunday at Skunkmasters we had new volunteer Shelbie help Jill and I so we were able to take 3 dogs. We had  Roscoe & Bernie from Clark Manor, and Trip, a new 7-month-old pup, that Mom is fostering until he finds a home. It was fun having 3 dogs under a year old. Roscoe decided to sit in the flowerpot and Bernie said nothing. I'm sure Sharon has her hands full with those 2 pranksters. Trip is a sweet boy that is very well- mannered and has had some training.  He does get along with other dogs as does Roscoe and Bernie,  which makes for an easy day. It wasn't real busy but always entertaining. Skunkmasters will be opening a lounge towards the end of the month, which will put the people watching in a whole new category. Ha! I want to welcome Shelbie to the CARL family and thank her for all of her help and pictures. 
 We will be back at Skunkmasters on Sept. 3rd.

Plus dog transport is required.
Volunteer orientations are now being conducted online. After completely filing out the CARL volunteer application VOLUNTEER APPLICATION. You will be contacted by email to attend an online orientation, presented by a CARL volunteer via Zoom.
