NATIONAL SUICIDE PREVENTION WEEK |
|
World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10 marks the commencement of National Suicide Prevention Week. Throughout the entirety of September, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) dedicates the month to raising awareness about this significant cause of death and motivating individuals to discover their potential role in their communities to save lives!
This year AFSP is highlighting the new 'Talk Away the Dark' initiative, designed to bring attention to this leading cause of death. This effort includes a public service announcement (PSA) video, personal narratives, various shareable social media visuals, and additional resources. By familiarizing ourselves with warning signs, understanding risk factors, and courageously engaging in genuine and open conversations with our loved ones, we all have the potential to make a meaningful impact. |
| Talk Away The Dark We may fear that saying the wrong words could exacerbate the situation. Consequently, we sometimes choose to remain silent, even though offering a few compassionate words can be the crucial link to connecting someone with assistance or providing support to those who have suffered a loss due to suicide.
It's time we shed a light on this leading cause of death. It's time we talk away the dark. |

| AFSP Chapter AFSP's regional branches unite committed volunteers, often including individuals who have a personal connection to the cause. These chapters create a community of individuals who set a precedent, collaborating to dispel the darkness surrounding suicide, shift it from the shadows, and start important conversations that change lives. | |

| Interactive Screening Program By offering a secure and private avenue for individuals to initiate conversations that talk away the dark, ISP (Individual Screening Program) invites individuals to complete a brief assessment for stress, depression, and other mental health concerns. ISP effectively addresses people's hesitations about seeking mental health support. ISP helps resolve peoples’ resistances to seeking mental health services. | |
