25 Nov TOWARDS A MIXED ECOLOGY OF CHURCH

A day for anyone interested in or involved in pioneering, fresh expressions, or any new worshipping community. Everyone is welcome, whether you are just curious, starting out or have years of experience.

You are invited to join us to learn from other people’s stories and share your own helping us learn together.

We have planned a wide ranging series of seminars led by practitioners who’ll be sharing their stories of how they’ve engaged with God’s mission through a mixed ecology journey and the lessons they’ve learned.

We are holding it at Christ Church, Blackfriars Bridge on Saturday 25th November from 10am-4pm. The ticket price is £15 per person and includes refreshments and lunch. Group tickets are available and cost £10 per person for orders of 4 or more from the same parish.

Do contact us if you have any questions or where cost may be an issue (this will be treated in confidence) as we would like to make sure that as many as possible can join us. Booking and Full Details.

ESTATES LAY PIONEERS

The Diocese has agreed a new and exciting pathway for ministry for people living on estates ministering to others on their estate. The ESTATE LAY PIONEERS COURSE, Magnify, will start in January in at least three locations around the Diocese. There will be a meeting at Trinity House on Tuesday 17th October, 12:30pm-2pm (with lunch), where full details of the course and how it will work will be shared. Please book a place via Eventbrite. Booking details.

In the meantime please contact Gary Jenkins, Dean of Estates, if you would like to find out more about the course or if you have a candidate or candidates to recommend for the course: gary.jenkins@southwark.anglican.org

2023 PIONEER GATHERINGS

We have a special focus this autumn in our gatherings on Estates Ministry. Southwark has the second highest number of Estates parishes in the country.

Do let us know if you would like to be on the Pioneer Gathering mailing list.
 Thursday 16 November, 11:15am-12:45pm: Online
Heather Black is leading the Mustard Seed Project in York Diocese based in their most deprived communities. It aims to raise missional leaders from these communities to reach their communities. They are already seeing fruit from this approach. Southwark Diocese learnt a lot from them in crafting our bid for resources from the Church Commissioners to launch our Estates Lay Pioneer pathway. If you would like to come and hear what she has to say, please send an email to pioneering@southwark.anglican.org.

PIONEERING & fxC STORIES

FX Booklet

We recently gathered stories of pioneering and fresh expressions from around the country with the help of friends from a number of dioceses that we were planning a national conference with. “Our Stories” is the booklet that emerged as a result. Download and read more about the 14 inspirational stories on our blog post.

FRESH EXPRESSIONS OF CHURCH GRANTS

Last year we had a wonderful response to our giving £250 to start or restart a fresh expression or new worshipping community post pandemic. As a result, we will be publishing a series of stories via the Diocese twitter (X) account through the autumn leading up to our mixed ecology conference on the 25th November (see southwark.anglican.org/fxp23 for details).

Given this success we would like to repeat it this year (but increase the amount to £500) and encourage our parishes by giving grants this autumn to start/ grow or restart a fresh expression of Church or new worshipping community. As we are wanting to encourage lay leaders in the Diocese then we are asking for lay led initiatives to start with through October. Full details.
