Digest Term 3 Week 6 2023

Principal’s  Report: Brian Downton

It has been an incredibly busy and productive start to our school term. Like all ACT schools, winter bugs and illness have continued to impact our staff and community. However, through this our staff’s commitment to offering diverse learning experiences has been unwavering and truly shone through in the vast array of opportunities provided to our students both inside and outside the classroom. Within just a six-week period, many of our students have immersed themselves in a plethora of enriching activities that have provided deep learning and an opportunity to further strengthen relationships and school connection.

Our adventurous Year 9/10 students hit the slopes on their Ski Trip, while Year 7 students stepped back in time with the enlightening Hass Archaeological Incursion. We've stargazed at the Mt Stromlo Observatory Evening and given students a glimpse into potential future paths at the Careers Expo and the hands-on Try and Trade day. Our aspiring builders in the Women in Construction course and the CIT Certificate II in Construction have already showcased remarkable work, demonstrating a commendable level of commitment.
Aaron Chatfield from Dreamtime Connections imparted invaluable knowledge during the Indigenous Plant Workshop, and our 9/10 Panthers boys showcased their stamina at the Panthers Sydney Camp, culminating in the City to Surf 14km run. The Year 9/10 Japanese Sydney Excursion bridged cultures, and our future global leaders had the chance to debate pressing international issues at the Model United Nations Assembly.
Our intellectual champions stretched their cognitive abilities through the Tournament of Minds, NAIDOC Week celebrations, ICAS testing, and our House Spelling Bee Competition. Meanwhile, our Year 10 students showcased their entrepreneurial spirit with a number of Bake Sale events, all in a bid to make their Year 10 Formal more affordable and a truly unforgettable experience!
The School Walkathon is upon us and takes place this week. It is without a doubt, an absolute highlight of our school calendar. It is not only a fantastic way for students to stay active but also a vibrant platform for them to connect with peers and foster a deeper sense of belonging within the school community.
Lastly, our sport enthusiasts were spoilt for choice, with events ranging from Table Tennis tournaments and Chess Championships to both Junior and Senior Football Championships.
In wrapping up, our term's start has been nothing short of spectacular, setting a high bar for the rest of the year. Let’s keep the momentum going!

Academic Calendar: enhancing school/home communication
Responding to student and parent feedback, ADHS has launched a new way for you to access subject outlines and assessment dates for your child. The ADHS Assessment Calendar was recently sent out and can be found at the following address: https://lookerstudio.google.com/s/pd1noil9ZJw
The calendar is student specific and will launch with the student code “0”. You are able to interact with this page in two places, “Student Code” and a partly hidden “Class Name” drop down menu. By entering your child’s student code, the page will show you all of the students' classes, teacher names / email addresses, and links to their unit outlines. It will also create a list of the students’ assessment types and due dates. All of the due dates are set to the Monday of the week the assessment will be due. The partially hidden drop down menu allows you to look at the assessment dates of a selected class or classes.

The ADHS Assessment Calendar was developed to further enhance communication between the school and home. It is our hope that by engaging with this calendar, parents and carers will have a greater understanding of upcoming assessment items and key course documents to better support students at home.

School Satisfaction and Climate Survey
You should now have the 2023 School Satisfaction and Climate Survey link in your inbox. This email will contain your unique link to access the survey. Genuine survey invitation emails will have the title "The 2023 School Satisfaction & Climate Survey is now open!" and will be sent from EDU Surveys & Evaluation with 'from' address EDU@qualtrics-survey.com. If you do not receive the survey invitation, please check your Junk email folder; if it is not there, please contact your school. If you do not have an email listed with the school, please contact the Front Office.
Parent and carer participation in the School Satisfaction and Climate Survey is greatly appreciated and we are looking for record responses this year. Your feedback is invaluable to us, providing essential data that guides our ongoing efforts to enhance our school environment. By sharing your insights, you play a pivotal role in our mission to continuously improve and best serve our students and community.
