A new direction

94 Forward initiated a new strategy on April 1, 2023. You are a part of our journey.

We are building a generation of Canadian sporting talent. Victoria, and its community, are central to that strategy. We are working directly with athletes and coaches. We are designing and delivering programming. We are bringing athletes and coaches from across Canada to Victoria.

This is Issue 1 of our new monthly newsletter keeping you in touch with what we are up to and what’s going on.

Canada Skateboard in Victoria

3 national team athletes and 2 coaches from Skateboard Canada came to Victoria July 11-14, 2023. You can read about it here from the Times Colonist. Alongside 94 Forward performance partners from PISE and CSI, we visited 3 local skate parks and toured 3 dry-land training facilities.  We are looking forward to hosting Canada Skateboard for a second pilot to build out potential programming. Stay tuned!

Here’s what you need to know

Between April 2023 and March 2024 we will be delivering a range of pilot projects across multiple sports. These projects will be instrumental in helping us select a fixed number of sports we’ll work with until 2028 - culminating in the LA Olympic Games.

🔥 Upcoming Projects

  • 🏃‍♀️ Triathlon - This week we welcome next-generation triathletes and coach Gary Pallett from Manitoba. Current Triathlon Canada star Tyler Mislawchuk is from Manitoba. Meeting the group while here will be Formidables Mandy Marchak (rugby) & Sarah-Anne Brault (triathlon), who both happen to be originally from Manitoba too. The group will train in Victoria for 10 days under the leadership of Coach Pat Kelly. The athletes will be billeting with the Reimer and Dennis families, thank you!

  • 🧘 Athlete Movement - Next week we will be launching our newly developed Movement Class for athletes from any sport. Designed by expert David Cowie, this class draws from Yoga, dance, gymnastics, and martial arts to enhance general movement patterns for all athletes. For more information on this class, please contact us

👋 Rick Say is Formidable!

The Formidables are a group of past athletes who have represented Canada. They have strong ties to Victoria and the Legacy of the Commonwealth Games. They trained here, and attribute much of their success to the advantages provided by Victoria. They are affiliated with 94Forward because they are motivated to stay connected to sport and to share their insights with current and future athletes.

Rick Say hails from Salmon Arm, BC. A freestyle swimmer, he represented Canada at 3 Olympic Games (Sydney, Athens, Beijing). Over his career, Rick won 4 Commonwealth Games medals and set numerous Canadian records. Rick lives with his family in Victoria. Rick recently stopped by the 94Forward offices, with his son Gavin, and signed his photo on the wall.
