Sock Monkey Museum Sets World Record
|
|
The Sock Monkey Museum in Long Grove made history last week after a visit from a Guinness Book of World Records representative counted 2,098 stuffed animals.
In honor of the feat, the Historic Downtown Long Grove business owner, Arlene Okun, received a plaque denoting the world record status.
Okun established the Sock Monkey Museum in 2019 to share her collection of stuffed toys with the public. Okun has been collecting her 2000+ monkey army for over 16 years. The former record holder owns 1,000 sock monkeys.
Congratulations to Arlene and her staff!

The Vernon Hills shopping center blows out the candles as Hawthorn celebrates its half-century born day.
After a proposed $45 million construction proposal was put into place, Hawthorn opened its doors in 1972 with anchor stores like Marshall Fields, Sears and 15 other specialty shops.
The mall has overseen myriad renovations to push the envelope on style, vibrancy and an elevated experience. Hawthorn continues to stay fresh as it embarks on a $252 million transformative redevelopment.
The project called Hawthorn 2.0 includes a scope of work that features a 311-unit luxury apartment complex called The Domaine, a second-mixed-used luxury apartment complex, a demolition of 100,000 square feet of retail space inside the mall, relocation of Dave & Buster's for its newest prototype, an outdoor plaza, new shops and restaurants and more.
To commemorate the 50 years, Hawthorn is throwing a party on September 9 (that has since been sold out).
Congratulations Hawthorn, and we look forward to seeing the new look!
