ICW UPDATE - 27 AUGUST 2023
PREPARE FOR AN ORANGE CONED INNER-CITY
Kia ora.
This update is to let you know about major road works that will be impacting Taranaki Street and some surrounding side roads into 2025!
So that inner-city residents could be in the loop, we've been in touch with one of the companies undertaking the work for Wellington Water to find out more.
Here's the info they have provided:)
THIS INFORMATI0N IS FROM GP FRIEL LTD
Kia Ora,
We are pretty excited to have made a start on construction of the Taranaki St Rising Main – a new pumped wastewater main along Taranaki St from Market Lane to Wigan St.
This project will deliver a more resilient network for our wastewater and will cater for growth in our city. We are pleased to be delivering this fantastic project alongside GHD and on behalf of Wellington Water.
Our team attended a Karakia at dawn with the trustees of Te Aro Pa (the original settlement in Wellington). It is really important to us that while we deliver for the future of Wellington we do not lose sight of the history that is part of the story of the City where we have all chosen to make our homes. We are looking forward to working closely with the trustees and we are up for the challenge of respecting the original Pa as we deliver our work.
This week the site team has been setting up our first site in the middle of Taranaki St next to the Wakefield St intersection.
Please take extra time for your journeys around the traffic management, avoid the area if you can and follow the instructions of our onsite traffic management team.
Next week we are going to start setting up wells and pumps to lower the water table so that we can dig holes of around 5m deep and start installation of the pipes.
We will also start to set up our site on the other side of the Wakefield St intersection that will involve a closure of the southbound lanes of Taranaki St from Cable St to Wakefield St (Northbound traffic will be maintained).
There are a couple of detour options and these will be signed.
We acknowledge the traffic management will cause delays, so we appreciate your patience while we complete this important project.
Our project is planned to be complete in mid-2025 so we are going to be in the area for a while.
We will be putting out regular updates to this mailing list to keep you informed of changes to the site and the progress we are making. Let me know if you would like to be removed from the distribution.
Feel free to also send this update to other businesses and residents in the area and encourage them to email us their details to be added to our list for updates.
Please reach out if you have any questions about the work
Kind Regards
David Philipson
