Updates from our State Board President

As we reflect on Women’s Equality Day today, I want to take a moment to thank each of you for the work you do to ensure equity in all spaces. Thank you for your time, dedication, and membership. We could not do our work without your support, and we are grateful for this incredible community.

It has been a busy summer for NWPC California! Many of us headed to Richmond, Virginia for the 26th Biennial National Convention. We had the largest contingent of delegates and were proud to represent our great state. It was wonderful spending time with members from around the country working in their states to recruit, train, and help elect women. We are thrilled to share the news about electing a new national president, Deidre Malone, and installing a new national board of directors. We look forward to working with Deidre and the new board in lots of exciting ways. A big shout out to California members who joined the national board, including:

  • VP of Education & Training: Chelsea Byers
  • VP of Political Planning & Appointments: Leta Schlosser
  • Treasurer: Maria Madril Hernandez
  • PPAC Members: Karen Humphrey and Tracy Van Houten
  • California Representatives: Angelica Ramos Allen and Chelsea Byers

Earlier this month I had the pleasure of emceeing the Women’s Equality Day Celebration in Fresno. I would like to extend a huge thank you to local president, Marsha Conant, and all the members of NWPC Fresno who created the exceptional event. We were inspired into action by keynote speaker California State Senate President Pro Tempore Toni Atkins. It was exciting to present awards to community advocates making change, including a tribute to longtime NWPC member Mary Stanley, with the “Mary Stanley Courage to Run” award. Congratulations to honorees: Lee Ann Eager, Genoveva Islas, Simone Cranston-Rhodes, Destiny Rodriguez, and “Good Guy” Assemblymember Joaquin Arambula.

Stay tuned for the launch of a new webinar series with legislators, coming soon. If you’re a Golden Circle Donor, we’re hosting a call in September to chat about the national convention and state plans for the rest of the year. It’s not too late to become a Golden Circle Donor, so please reach out to me if you’re interested! And we hope that you will join us in Newport Beach for our next in-person state board meeting this October (10/07-10/08).

Please reach out to me with questions, suggestions, or if you are looking to get more involved at the local or state level. There are committees to join in your local caucus or at the state level, including: public policy, membership, fundraising, communications, and education & training. Thank you again and hope to connect soon!

Today is #WomensEqualityDay, but constitutional equality is still not a reality. Women in the United States now have fewer rights than they’ve had in decades.

We hope you'll join us in calling on our elected officials to restore reproductive rights and add the Equal Rights Amendment to the Constitution. Equality can't wait.

We want to wish a hearty welcome and congratulations to our newly elected National President, Deidre Malone. Deidre ran on a platform of bringing all our members together, elevating the National brand, and working hard to preserve our bottom line issues in these divisive times. As the largest State chapter, NWPC California looks forward to working with President Malone and the National Board to moving our goals forward together.
