Free Sunday Music by the Lake - Lost Wages
Sunday, Sept 10 4-7pm

As part of the Valdese Plein Air Fest, Friends of the Valdese Rec is sponsoring this special evening of "Sunday Music by the Lake" featuring music by Lost Wages at Valdese Lakeside Park. Local boys David Bonner and Brian Mull have reunited as Lost Wages performing popular songs from various genres of music over the past 7 decades - and some originals.

Bring chairs or a blanket and a picnic basket to settle in for an evening of fabulous entertainment and beautiful views.

During this time, you will be able to find artists painting along the trails and the Story Book Trail will hold paintings from children's painting event at the Saturday Free Family Fun at the Falls.

The Valdese Plein Air Fest is sponsored by Town of Valdese, Rock School Arts Foundation, Valdese Parks and Recreation Department and Friends of the Valdese Rec.

Guidelines for the event: Please no pop up tents, and furry friend must be leashed. Also, there is no alcohol permitted in the park, and tobacco or vape use is not allowed on Town of Valdese property.

Clear Debris from around Fishing Pier
Monday, Aug 28 8:00am

Join us to clean up the area around the new Kayak Launch - Fishing Pier at VLP. We will come in from the land side - and if you have a boat/kayak you can work in the water. We will bag the trash and get the limbs up into the woods. Hand saws and clippers may be needed to untangle the limbs in the water.
Free Family Fun at the Falls
Saturday, Sept 9 at 11:00 am

Painting for kids - on rocks, on log slices and on canvases! Plus a free Hot Dog lunch with thanks to Bimbo Bakeries cooking the hot dogs and bringing the buns. Kids who paint on canvases can choose to have their work displayed in the Story Book Trail pedestals at Valdese Lakeside Park. This event has changed focus up due to high E.coli rates in the creek. We will not have the usual educational creek program nor the Duck Derby race. We will keep all activities under the shelter as not to encourage kids to play in the creek.
Greenway Tour for those needing Assistance
Wednesday, Sept 6 1-2:30pm

For those who want to see the Valdese Greenway and the McGalliard Creek Bridge and are not able to walk the distance due to health issues - join us for a golf cart ride. Guests will be driven 3 at a time from the Valdese Lakeside Park Entrance to the bridge and back. Arrive anytime between 1-2:30 pm and wait for a turn Thanks to Ed and Louise Plemmons for providing their golf cart and driving services!
Local's Book on Story Book Trail

The current book on the Valdese Lakeside Park Story Book Trail is from local artist/illustrator Jana Farris. Chicken on the Moon follows a chicken's dream of being an astronaut. Located on the Meditation Point Trail, the book pedestals were made possible from a Community Foundation of Burke County grant, donations from Pilot Club of Valdese and FVR. FVR volunteers installed the 16 pedestals and change out the book each month.
