Transitions

It’s that time of year again! (And if this is coming to you in the Maritimes I hope that you managed ok in our most recent storm!)

2023 has been a big year for our family. It’s actually the 25th anniversary of my business (how did that happen?!) but more importantly it’s also the year that sees our daughter graduating from high school and launching herself into the world. We are so proud of her! She has grown into such a lovely and accomplished young lady.

It's a new chapter for everyone and I look forward to seeing where these new possibilities take us.

So with a busy summer behind me I’m now looking forward to getting back to the bench- I have lots of new ideas swirling around and I look forward to sharing them with you at one of my upcoming fall shows.

Windsor Garlic Fest

It's always a pleasure to be back in the valley. The weather is looking good for this weekend. Come join us- it should be a fun event!

Harvest Moon Night Market

This show really captured my imagination. Ever since I first saw the Full Moon tracking across the sky over the tundra (such a different experience from experiencing it in the city!) I’ve been sort of fascinated. The moon has such a steadying and gentle presence. You know it's there even when you can't see it. As you know, the moon has featured prominently in my work over the years and this seems like a perfect opportunity to showcase my whole collection!

This Full Moon Series is still a favourite of mine. I like the combination of the simplicity of shape and the visual interest of the texture. This rock texture was created by making an impression from a piece of granite I found years ago in Iqaluit.

Artist Statement

The reward is in the act of observing. Stone colours, textures, the shape of leaves, the ebb and flow of the sea, the changing seasons - all of these things continue to inspire my work. A gesture of thanks and appreciation.

At first it was a technical challenge - to really learn to see the natural world and to develop techniques to capture a sense of it in metal. But as time has passed I am now realizing another purpose: Connection. People connecting to place, places connecting to each other and our shared connection to the world around us.

Almost 20 years ago one of my students said the following to me:

"The moon casts three shadows you know."

I am still thinking about it.

Jewelry Designer and Goldsmith, Instructor- Inspired by the Canadian and Arctic Landscapes

I spent years travelling and living across Canada and in Canada’s Arctic, giving workshops, establishing jewellery studios, teaching and encouraging others to pursue a career in the arts.

In 2000 I moved back to Nova Scotia and began work on Seal Rock Studio. My family and I currently live on Nova Scotia’s scenic South Shore. I continue to work as a professional artist, exploring the theme of the Canadian and Arctic landscapes – sharing my experiences both North and South.
