Ecosystem Restoration For Livelihoods and Food Security: A Global Dialogue

Would ecosystem restoration look different if the primary objective were supporting livelihoods? How can ecosystem restoration processes promote social and ecological co-benefits and manage tradeoffs? Join us to address these questions with ecosystem restoration experts from around the world. This full-day workshop will feature: Expert panel discussion on challenges and opportunities for prioritizing livelihoods in ecosystem restoration. Presentations by MSU researchers working on ecosystem restoration. Call for Fellows: COIL Faculty Fellows Program-Africa

Announcing the launch of the COIL Faculty Fellows Program-Africa, an AAP-sponsored opportunity for faculty or academic staff with teaching appointments from any discipline to explore the theory and practice of COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning). Stipends will be given to fellows to support professional and project development, and the program will also provide a blend of training workshops, presentations, and a fellows community of practice. To showcase fellows’ work, a culminating symposium/academic conference is scheduled to take place after COILed projects have been implemented. See flyer for more information
African Activist Archive Project Last Call
The African Activist Archive Project has built a unique, free digital archive of almost 14,000 items created by activists during 50 years of anti-apartheid and Southern Africa solidarity organizing in the United States. We are now making a “last call” to former activists for materials we can borrow to digitize and add to this digital archive. If you kept leaflets and other documents, posters, buttons, or photographs from organizing from the 1950s through the 1990s – or can help us find other people who might have saved these historical objects – we are eager to hear from you! Volunteers Needed for Departments of Computer Science, Engineering and RS&GIS Research Study

Michigan State University (MSU) Departments of Computer Science, Engineering and RS&GIS are looking for volunteers to participate in a research study titled, Physics-driven Modeling and Learning for Person ecognition at a Distance and Altitude. The objective of this research is to design, implement and evaluate a software system for face, whole-body and gait biometric recognition. Participants will receive a $50 prepaid visa card for a single session. See the flyer for more information
CAORC (Council of American Overseas Research Centers)-National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Research Fellowship

"The CAORC - National Endowment for the Humanities Research Fellowship is now accepting applications! This fellowship provides the opportunity for scholars to spend significant time in one country with an Overseas Research Center as a base.
The fellowship supports advanced research in the humanities for scholars who hold a PhD or a terminal degree. Applicants must be US citizens or foreign national scholars who have been resident in the US for at least three years. Approximately four awards will be granted and fellowship stipends are $5,000 per month for four to six consecutive months." Please visit the link for more information

The Daryl and Glenda Minor Tanzania Fellowship will support a first-time two-year master’s degree program for an entering Michigan State University (MSU) student from Tanzania with interests in a field related to international development. The Minor Fellow will be committed to working towards understanding and contributing to inclusive social and economic development in Tanzania. ASC is now accepting applications for Strategic Partnership Grants for the fall semester. Eligibility requirements, application guidelines and other relevant information can be found here. The deadline for this round is October 06, 2023.
Other funding opportunities to consider:
Curriculum Development Grants ($3,000 summer stipends): to support faculty interested in developing a new course or seminar related to Africa or revising an extant course or seminar to include at least 25% of Africa content.
Curriculum Enhancement Grants ($1,000): for purchase of Africa related curricular materials, payment of guest speakers.
Conference Travel Grants ($1,000): to support Africanist Faculty for domestic conference expenses.
Special Programming Grants (amount varies): to bring a guest speaker; host a panel discussion or workshop; plan a social event etc.
