Anato-Bee Competition Inspires High School Students to Learn About the Anatomical Sciences
The Anato-Bee competition inspires high school students to learn more about the anatomical sciences. The Anato-Bee Team is primarily motivated to spark this interest in underrepresented students in STEM majors and careers. Through a grant funded by the American Association for Anatomy (AAA), Dr. Mary Piscura, Assistant Professor at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine, and her colleagues founded the "Anato-Bee." In 2024, this anatomy outreach initiative will recruit high school students nationwide to participate in a competition for the anatomical sciences. Students are free to participate, and winners will receive stipends to attend summer research internships.
AOMA Members - invited to participate in Physician Survey & Interview on Medical Data Sensitivity Categorization
Interested in co-authoring a scientific journal publication?

Members of the AOMA are invited to partner with the College of Health Solutions at Arizona State University and participate in a NIDA-sponsored study of Physician Surveys and Interviews on Medical Data Sensitive Categorization.  Part of a 5-year-old research grant, the study is designed to understand how physicians with different specialties, training, and experience classify health information into sensitive data categories (e.g., mental health information).

The study is expected to take at most two hours in total and has two parts: an online 60-minute survey and a 60-minute follow-up interview via Zoom.

Physicians who complete both parts of the study are invited to co-author a scientific journal publication on this research. To be eligible, physicians must:
  • Be licensed DO or MD with an active board certification
  • Be an English speaker and at least 18 years old
  • Have a computer or tablet with internet access
  • Should you choose to participate, please note that:
  • Your survey answers will not be linked to your name or organization
  • You may decline to answer any question and stop participation at any time
This study is led by Dr. Adela Grando, Associate Professor, College of Health Solutions at Arizona State University. The team looks forward to working with AOMA physician members and thanks you in advance for your time.
For questions and/or to participate, contact Shafaq Siddiqui, student researcher, at ssiddi14@asu.edu

AOA Wellness Toolkit for Physicians and Medical Students
You've dedicated your life's work to helping patients, but focusing on your own physical and mental well-being is just as important.

The AOA is committed to helping support the wellness of osteopathic physicians and medical students from the first days of medical school through retirement. Though well accustomed to caring for patients, physicians, and medical students aren’t always good at caring for themselves. Left unchecked, stress can lead to physician burnout and, in some cases, depression and maybe suicide. The
AOA Wellness Toolkit resources were developed by DOs and osteopathic medical students serving on the AOA’s Bureau of Osteopathic Research & Public Health to help physicians and medical students start toward a healthier mind, body, and spirit.
