1956 Corvette SR-2 Racer
This Corvette is 1 of 2 built by Harley Earl who was GMC VP of Styling. He designed the Corvette while envisioning and championed its creation in 1953. Harley's son, Jerome, was racing a Ferrari in 1956 when his father was told by the top brass of General Motors that it didn't look right to have Jerome racing a Ferrari when he should be racing a Corvette. Harley told Jerome that he would build him a special Corvette race car and this was the backdrop for what is the first General Motors, purpose-built and sponsored Corvette racer. The SR-2 had a successful racing history, representing the finest combined efforts of the two true icons of Corvette and General Motors in the golden era of racing.
